Hi i was wondering if any one has information on the circuit aas a i have no prior experience with them. I am due to sit the exam soon and although i am confident with every other aspect i havent the faintest clue on how to wire it nor test it. Any wiring diagrams or other info would be most helpful.

Thanks

for testing, you test upto earth/phase connections in DOL, and you also megger cables between DOL and motor, but remember you need to remove connections from motor windings

I well messed the motor circuit up when i did my AM2, years ago now though, from andys drawing it doesnt look like they have changed anything since.

I remember finally getting it working in the half hour they give to rectify any faults once powered up.

i thought the motor circuit (and everything else) was easy. hardest part was using the old materials

Motor circuit is fairly easy as long as u look at the wiring diagram and you cant go wrong really.

o yh, does anyone know wht they get taught in these 5 days or wht they dont get taught could b the question? Is there any practical involved? :)

1: Electric is usually 230V

2: brown is old red (the live)

3: blue is old black (the not-so-live)

4: g/y is spare, rarely used, unless you need a extra switched live

5: If it passes breaker test, its all good

6: If in doubt over earthing, stick a 951 onto incoming cable (If lead), or DIY PME (must be after meter)

7: i dont think there is a 7....

For you practical:

1: plug in tester. If it lights up, it has a live. all is OK

i knew i should of choice that course instead of my 3 year college course X( haha:^O

I distinctly remember the loud bang and the smell of burning when i fired up the motor on the AM2, on further inspection it turned out someone had messed around with the prewired links in the DOL starter, and i hadnt noticed when wiring it up.

Dont think the 5 Day courses even go into such things as MICC termination nevermind wiring up motors.

Where abouts do you take your live and neutral supply from to power this control circuit on the AM2 test? I'm sitting the AM2 on Monday; my college doesn't have a motor rig like this set up, which may surprise some of you, but certainly doesn't surprise me! I feel fairly confident wiring it up from the diagram... Thanks guys, Chris.

you will have taken 3x phases & neutral from DB to contactor box. neutral will connect to contactor. neutral for lights will also connect to this. your 230v for controls will be taken from any phase to the fuse, and then to controls
