so there is a bloke who weighs 445kg and needs to be moved. apparantly, the other year when he weighed 317kg, they had to move him by lifting with a forklift though a removed window.

they say he will probably be mvoed in a 'special ambulance'. whats the chances this ambulances is a flatbed HGV?!

and would it not be easier moving the hospital to him?!

surely the person who keeps going to mcdonalds / greggs daily should have noticed something and stopped?!

There was a sad story of a young man near where I lived in Peterborough a few years back.

He had some problems and didn't go out, just stayed in and ate until he could no longer move from the downstairs room in which he stayed in his family's house.

Not unexpectedly he died very young, and the problems of what to do with his corpse became apparent.

A window was removed and a wall demolished, and the tarpaulin wrapped body, which was too big for a coffin or hearse, was winched onto the back of a recovery truck. Unfortunately as the vehicle drove away the poorly secured remains rolled off down the road.

It was a very undignified end to a very short and sad life.

Relative of mine, her sister weighed in at about 50 stone. She fell ill and had to go to hospital - took 2 crews of firemen to somehow get her through a window and into an ambulance. She died shortly after in her early 40's, leaving 2 teenage daughters.

It's sad to have to go that way, but these people should think of their loved ones before they eat another meal/snack. Maybe then they'd do something about it.

Sadly the thing is people don't turn into Bernard manning overnight its a gradual thing, one moment you think you are perhaps a little podgy around the middle, next thing you can't see your feet. You dont put it on overnight and it doesnt come off overnight either......

If they don't fit through the door then I can see a very quick and easy weigh loss plan ;) Give them a tap and a toilet.

Just leaving the fire service after 22 years service and you'd be surprised and disgusted at the amount of 'bariatric' patients we have had to help ambulance teams with over the years. Absolute nightmare moving the big lumps of lard around. Financial incentives should be offered as discussed on yesterdays news, but i'd be more in favour of removing benefits until they could only afford to eat basic food stuffs. Harsh I agree but they won't/can't help themselves.

I think there is also a mental element to their problems , possibly, gain weight, lose self esteem, begin comfort eating.

You never know whats in store. Talking to my neighbour's lad who I've known since birth ,age 20,I began to realise something wrong, he was so negative about everything ," Whats the point of even living " . He,s been diagnosed now with cronic depression and that thing when you won't touch door handles and stuff .

Hes a good guitarist and I was urging him to join a group or start one, get out and meet people but he could'nt see the point. Can,t get any enthusiasm out of him at all.

Definitely agree there Mr Evans, a lot of it is in the mind and our sense of self image, self value etc etc. I have a cousin who is 30 stone and she doesnt think much of herself and has no intention of trying to shed weight.

watched something a while back fat people saying there addicted to eating and its hard to quit because you have to eat frequently to live and how well would heroin addicts do, quiting if they had to take a small dose everyday.

some parents could be more responsible i guess feeding there kids a better diet.

also i dont know about you but i find it hard when out and about to get healthy food

I take a bit of your point, but in reality it's not hard these days to buy a sandwich and apple in stead if chips for lunch. Most towns with a chippy will also have a small supermarket with fresh fruit. It's also cheaper, 60p for a packet of crisps or 15p for an apple
