As I have said they have stipulated that it should be built and the plan of where they are going to run from the main road ( below from EDF) with lockable doors, I wonder how long it will last, e.g damp etc, http://www.slippeddisc.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/plan.bmp
This thread is in danger of going around in circles.

You have told us what they have proposed, but nobody knows why that unusual proposal is on the table.

It's as though you, or someone else asked them to give the very cheapest possible quote to lay in a new supply, so this is what they came up with to do the absolute minimum of work and in so doing impose this carbuncle on the development as well as a lot of extra cost for you.

You, or whoever asked for the original quote now needs to go back to EDF and say this is unacceptable and ask them to revise their proposal and price. Make it clear to them you will prepare the trenches on your land and lay in the duct to get the cable through the foundations to the meter position, so their only extra cost will be a short run of extra cable and a few minutes extra laying in the extra little bit of cable.

If the revised cost comes out a lot higher than this proposal, argue it with them and tell them to justify how it can cost a lot more for just a little extra work.

Until you do that, nobody can really give you any more advice.

But do let us know what EDF say when you ask them to revise their quote.

Edf do not work like that they contract out to contractors like morrison etc to install cable then jointers install head then siemens come and install meter. They do not allow you to install cable to property.

Are you saying "THEY" will not install direct into a new build property and this anderson shelter idea is the only way they will do it?

Or are are you saying they will not let YOU the sparky install the cable into the property? in which case that is not what I was suggesting, I was merely suggesting you dig the trench ready for them and install the duct under the foundations so EDF, or their appointed sub contractor can easilly lay the cable into the new property. Just like it works here with Scottish & Southern.

I am saying they will supply electric to property in cabinet outside but they do not let you trench cable they employ a sub contractor to do this. I also have sse in my area and they work to what you say ie you dig trench. EDF work different to sse that is why they won't let you remove main fuse and very rarely will fit isolators.

The way some of the DNOs work these days is a nightmare ,as above , one firm digging out ,another cable laying , another fitting the head, another live jointing, another meter fixing.

How times change ! In this area the old MEB did the lot , at least you knew who you were dealing with.

Trouble was they considered themselves to be The Electric Police sometimes.

I would like it run straight into the house all nice and tidy job done, but this has all been arranged since November 2009 and I was only asked 4 days ago to do the job, surely common sense tells you to run it the last 7 metres into the property, as I have said before it is not a builders supply as he owns the house next door and is using the external socket for power, we all agree how ridiculous it looks and unsafe but this seems to be the way that building is going these days, I will be starting this job in about 3 weeks time so watch this space I will be putting the final results up on here whether it be plan "A" or "B"

So as for now the following setup is to be applied to this situation:

Thanks to everyone for the input !!

Mike.

Has EDF been paid for the job yet?

If not then they will want to re-quote anyway as quotes only good for 90 days.

As stated the previous quote will have expired, so you need to get them to re quote.

Perhaps you should make an appointment to meet EDF at the property so you can explain what you actually want, and discuss why or how you can achieve what you want. At the very least it will let them explain why they want a bunker, and give you the chance to argue against it.

Until you actually contact them and discuss it, they will just assume you are happy with their existing proposal and proceed with that.

It may now form part of a small garden wall, which sounds better, let's wait until it gets nearer the time and we will see what the results are, maybe I might be able to talk them round when I get more involved!!!!!

Mike.

Incorporating it into a garden wall sounds a good idea. Let us know how you get on.

I was just wondering, is this a deliberate policy to make their cable and hence their responsibility end at the highway boundary, so they are no longer liable for any cables within or under customers premises?
