Hi there, for the neutral to light up the screwdriver, the neutral is not connected to neutral. Most likely you have got the board itself wired up wrong. Try to post a photo and see what we all think.

Problem is, for the earth to be live, you have not got any bonding connected either, so, if you touch ANYTHING made of metal, say a toaster or electric kettle, and then touch something that IS earthed at the same time, like your sink or a gas pipe or a radiator, you will be killed......

Please get an electrician....

john...

I think my wiring is right.  I removed all my wiring from distribution board and I tested with my screwdriver tester and still the neutral and earth in the distribution board

light up.  Any suggestion that goes wrong.

your wiring is NOT right,

or anywhere close to being right.

So it might be your "electricians" wiring that is wrong then if he fitted this new consumer unit and connected it.

Seriously, please admit you are out of your depth and get an electrician to check it before you kill yourself or worse kill someone else.

Why do people risk so much just to save a few quid?

Granted I am chasing in the wires on my extension and running the cables, but even if I were permitted to connect it all up I still would not because im not an electrician, its all great till something goes wrong.

I think i will see the consumer unit again tomorrow.  There is the live coloured red, blue neutral  and the earth green and yellow and all in their right position.

Where is my electrician?

If you have a blue neutral then the live will be brown.  What peculiar mix of old and new colours have you concocted there.

I do hope you live long enough to post that picture and don't kill yourself first.

Probably just some dirty contacts...

best if you just hose the lot down with some cold water at about 2.0bar pressure..

remember to open the CU up first and keep the lid off to let the let the water flow though and clean all the dirty contacts...

You must also keep the power on to assist the drying process afterwards...

If you try your screwdriver again after that then hopefully the neutral and earth will not be live anymore...

If in any doubt about the above procedure then best to call a competent electrician who can come and sort things out for you instead!

:innocent  .

the above advice is only that of the poster and not that held by the forum,  ;)

personally I think you should use salt water for the extra benefits.  :)

You joke about it, but I did indeed once find a ring final fed from two 32A mcb's, following a CU change.
I just took a call from an old mate looking for a freebie. Wondering why none of the four 6A breakers in his board would individually isolate his lighting circuit. From a bit of "do this...do that" over the phone it would appear he has to switch off TWO of them to isolate that particular circuit. The words "interconnected" fell on deaf ears!

He asked "Is it dangerous?". Sounds a bit odd to me, reckons it's 5 year old MK Sentry board in a new build town house with no RCDs.

Whatever, he's getting his brother's / wife's / nephew's mate down the club / pub etc who's a "sparks" to sort it.
