Ding dong merrily on high,

In heav'n the bells are ringing:

Ding dong! verily the sky

Is riv'n with angel singing.

Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis!

E'en so here below, below,

Let steeple bells be swungen,

And "Io, io, io!"

By priest and people sungen.

Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis!

Pray you, dutifully prime

Your matin chime, ye ringers;

May you beautifully rime

Your evetime song, ye singers.

Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis!

I have corrected that for the Rossie74 house

check the rubber thingies on the plates had one like that the other day. They are probably made in china and not put together right and its down to the installer to fix them.

There are a lot of things that can obstruct the chime bars..

even putting the cover on can be a problem..

have you tried it with the cover off?

Have you got a spare 12v alarm battery?

stick a couple of fly leads off a battery and test directly onto the bell to prove its working ok..

what size wires are used..

if they are megga thin bell wire and its a long run can cause problems...

I generally use a bit of 0.75 twin flex on any long run doorbells.

Other thought...

Is the transformer one of those with two output voltage taps?

e.g. 8v & 12V or 12v & 16v?

double check your tranny output voltage as well..

Obviously you have proved the switch or you wouldn't get your Ding!

You've wired it wrong. Some of them were MADE to do that.

They had TWO connections for buttons.

The one from the front door made it go Ding Dong

The one from the back door just made it go Dong.

So you knew which door to go and answer.

Read the instructions.
Thats rung a bell with me ProDave , I think you've hit on the answer there.

Our door bell in the house is wired exactly like this, front door, ding-dong, side door, dong.

No innuendo please! ;)

I was waiting to see what comments were made...
