need a bit of a push with this as first time i have come across it.

looked at job today, move cooker circuit, hagger cu no rcd, so rcbo, closser look 2.5 mm main earth dissapers somewere underground.

2 incoming water supplies, 1st plastic bonded to first bit off copper 10 mm,

2nd copper and no bonding

ze >299kohms

pefc 1 amp

over head supply

so need to tt or will dno pme it (does any one know the cost)?

so if its tt.

main earth 10mm or even 16 gets mentioned but is that a bit overkill or just a good idear to do.

need to put in rcd, does it need to be time delay 100ma as am putting in 30ma rcbo for cooker. am i right in thinking the cooker needs 30ma rcd as it has a socket outlet

or 30ma rcd to cover all circuits, not ideal i know,

thanks

Whats the PSCC? Main Earth size can be calculated just like any other Earth connection or CPC but what if the values used for calcs change?

You would need to provide descrimination for RCD's with a time delayed RCD.

TT it. only need 6mm to rod, but i normally wire in 10 (only because i dont keep 6mm in the van)

RCBO will need to be 30mA.

best thing would be to change the board to dual split, but at worst, installing a 100mA TD will be better than nothing

did not measure it mate bugger

This just goes to show that we should be verifying the earth before we do any job..

and when you find situations like this then they should be TT'd immediately and RCD protection added OR if they won't let you do that then issue a DANGER NOTICE and walk

the RCD could be a 30mA (not great!) or a 100mA TD with 30mA for any work that you do that requires a RCD

you need to give him the options

with the lowest being main rcd 30ma imo . lads?

30mA will not provide segregation of circuits.
correct thats why i said minimum

i.e i'd not do the cooker move without him atleast having X

No, but it is better than what is there now (no earth and no RCD)

You need two things:

1. some form of RCD protection.

2. An earth rod.

Or you issue an electrical danger notice, and walk away without energising anything you`ve de-energised.

KME

30 ma does not offer discrimination but advantage is that all circuits will be covered. He has opted for rod but its when i can do it and got to be about 200 and if you could get pme for less

I hate to have to say this again put its probably already PME its just not presented as TN-C-S. They will only be able to give you (him) TN-C-S IF its PME.

Have you issued your danger notice yet? You should be doing so anyway, even if he is going to have the work done. And the work should be done asap.
Concur - though you`re "jetting off" tomorrow, aren`t you???? :innocent Ram that earth rod in tonight - :coffee :coffee
