hello,

just wondering about proving unit, i know you need them to prove ur tester is correct, but on assessment if u do not have one what would u use to prove ur tester is true ?

eg a known live source??

help would be great thannks

do it on the incoming tails for di sceam I did

would that be ok? i no it the only known source, i have a flat.

incomming suply 100a fuse then from there a 80a fuse to the dlat CU

it is switched so can isolate whole board.

would u prove on main incomming supply ie the live tails from the 100 a fuse?

How do you check your tester if you are not working on the main Distribution Board, but are working on a remote circuit or distribution circuit?

with a proving unit lol this is my question?? im just not sure what tails to take reading from. to prove dead. shell i not isolate the flat CU and then take reading from there one testing live turn off CU put cover back on and turn the isoaltor swich??? so i know it is dead then back up to flat and re test to prove dead??

If you choose not to take any notice then that's fine, but there's no need to say it is unhelpful when it clearly is.

i did not say it was unhelpfull. i said some people on here are unhelpfull did i say names?

Proving unit or known live source.
Yes I know. But if you are at a remote point and the power is isolated, then you have no incoming side to check with. So use a proving unit.

Thing is, rather than spending 70 quid and getting a proving unit, alot of people just like the idea of, just test on the incoming sode of the tails. Great if you have a live incomer.

Yes. Therefore, proving unit OR known live source. If you have no live source, use the proving unit and vice versa. If you are at a remote location then you will be needing a proving unit.
