Yes. Therefore, proving unit OR known live source. If you have no live source, use the proving unit and vice versa. If you are at a remote location then you will be needing a proving unit.
i dont have a proving unit, and if i dont have a known live source, then it doesnt get checked against that. and im still alive

ive never needed a proving unit for a inspection, has your scheme provider asked for this? are you using a approved meter aswell?

oh sorry for using my phone never knew i was not allowed to

mr electro

as you know it does not matter how you access this forum

i believe the point mr lurch was trying to make

is that you cannot get the full benefit of the forum

in all its forms and guises

on a mobile phone

it is simply unusual for someone to access the forum by telephone on a regular basis

i mean if you are going to the lengths of using a proving unit to show your safe working practices id say the correct testing equipment more important than the proving unit.

As far as im aware (and i could well be wrong) a 1553 is not suitable for this, a matindale voltage indicator or a test lamp is. i cant see how a 1553 is gs38 complient as this would require fused test leads, fused test leads have a impact on your readings when live testing, there is a document out there produced by megger detailing the pit falls of fused test leads and its equipment.

This is all irrelavent anyway, i have never been asked anything like this on a assessment, if i was i would be using my martindale voltage indicator and the incoming supply to prove dead.

whilst a 1553 could be used, its a little impractical for the job. really, a voltage indicator should be used, but many people inc me) use something like a fluke T-140/120/100etc

i have dilog volt reader and cont reader. would this be ok ? as i no have to put a tester round ur neck is annoying just to carry out volage check?
