Well,
I had not booked any work for this week apart from two subbie jobs on Monday, at the same end user.
By the time I got there, with it being a Monday morning this was 3 jobs!
The first one I was not even aware of till I got there.
Anyway, sorted the first one in a few hours, poxy proxy failed in the bowels of the machine, CNC HMC spindle tool detection switch.
Fitted clients used spare, and told them.
The next one was the biggie, CNC VMC, excess play in Z axis.
Could go one of two ways.
Conventional slides with gibs, an hour of a job.
Or, linear bearings and rails, a week of a job.
Hence, not booking anything else, end client was aware, & warned them again about the possible £2k+ labour bill plus parts.
Gave us the goahead.
Gibs!
Bargain, sorted in an hour ish.
Next job juddering Z axis on another CNC VMC, sorted in a couple of hours, excess carbon build up on tacho brushes.
So been sort of kicking about for a few days, finishing off other small jobs in the workshop, done some paperwork I had to do, and a couple of small site jobs.
About to go to my unit this afternoon to finish off a test rig so I can hopefully test a machine for a client next week.
Phone rings, not a number I know.
"New" client, referral, CNC machine down, desperate.
Now I tend to work "regionally" and this week due to what is happening in my region, I hoped to stay West, ish of the region.
Where is the client, NEWPORT FFS!!!
Desperate, for me to come tomorrow or Friday.
Definitely can't do Friday, I'm doing a warranty job for a machine tool manufacturer, I try not to move them.
So I move the jobs I have tomorrow and tell them the costs, and they say yes.
So, now I have to drive into the heart of the affray tomorrow, I hope Obama et al appreciate how much trouble we are being put through!
I'm 70 miles away, but we have been overflown several times today by helicopter gunships!!!
Just not looking forward to getting to the client tomorrow, I've warned them it could be a long journey and they are picking up the bill, or I ain't coming.
Fricking NATO!...
