Well,

I had not booked any work for this week apart from two subbie jobs on Monday, at the same end user.

By the time I got there, with it being a Monday morning this was 3 jobs!

The first one I was not even aware of till I got there.

Anyway, sorted the first one in a few hours, poxy proxy failed in the bowels of the machine, CNC HMC spindle tool detection switch.

Fitted clients used spare, and told them.

The next one was the biggie, CNC VMC, excess play in Z axis.

Could go one of two ways.

Conventional slides with gibs, an hour of a job.

Or, linear bearings and rails, a week of a job.

Hence, not booking anything else, end client was aware, & warned them again about the possible £2k+ labour bill plus parts.

Gave us the goahead.

Gibs!

Bargain, sorted in an hour ish.

Next job juddering Z axis on another CNC VMC, sorted in a couple of hours, excess carbon build up on tacho brushes.

So been sort of kicking about for a few days, finishing off other small jobs in the workshop, done some paperwork I had to do, and a couple of small site jobs.

About to go to my unit this afternoon to finish off a test rig so I can hopefully test a machine for a client next week.

Phone rings, not a number I know.

"New" client, referral, CNC machine down, desperate.

Now I tend to work "regionally" and this week due to what is happening in my region, I hoped to stay West, ish of the region.

Where is the client, NEWPORT FFS!!!

Desperate, for me to come tomorrow or Friday.

Definitely can't do Friday, I'm doing a warranty job for a machine tool manufacturer, I try not to move them.

So I move the jobs I have tomorrow and tell them the costs, and they say yes.

So, now I have to drive into the heart of the affray tomorrow, I hope Obama et al appreciate how much trouble we are being put through!

I'm 70 miles away, but we have been overflown several times today by helicopter gunships!!!

Just not looking forward to getting to the client tomorrow, I've warned them it could be a long journey and they are picking up the bill, or I ain't coming.

Fricking NATO!...

NATO Summit in the Celtic Manor Resort, just off the M4 @ Newport.

>>3+ mile ring of security fencing all around the Celtic Manor Resort, tanks on the Golf Course there & I suspect not for show, probably loaded with munitions.

Schools closed, roads closed, stupid levels of security, and I suspect part of the reason why the whole of the UK is on "red alert"!

There are  road closures and restrictions up here also.

For the world Sheepdog trials.

Have two guests in out B&B this week for that, complete with their dogs.  you wouldn't believe how much it costs to fly a dog from the USA.

Looks like i'll be joining you in the clusterferk at Newport since i have a job in Nailsea first thing....been in Cardiff most the week loads of coppers wandering around carrying G36C rifles...

talking about work,

got a call yesterday from a guy who was apparently desperate for a CU change, told him I could do it either Friday or Saturday, would call him to confirm for deffo,

rang him tonight,

'oh, I didnt think you were interested, Ive got someone else now'

F-kin twat, after i moved a job for him!  headbang

what he means is he got someone cheaper from the pub, going by his tone,

he's a plasterer I work with FiL so I'll find out,

now, I'll just wait for the phone call can I do a cert for him,

by the sounds of it they have rewired the house themselves and needed some else to do the CU so they would get a cert for the whole house,  :slap

they had already bought the CU.

wonder how much money they are going to save ???????  and they still wont have an EIC.

The security surrounding the US President is always massive ...as you've  noticed.

President Clinton had a pint in Brum in the Gas Street Basin area ........the Secret Service gathered up all the glasses after and took them away.  :C

I think they've already decided to commit British troops to a NATO force ready to take on these nutters in Iraq / Syria .

As usual the Saudi's  and their ilk are keeping out of it .    Amazing is it not  that every time Britain runs down the armed forces , sells all the Harrier Jump jets , sells all the carries for scrap metal ................we suddenly find we need them after all .
