For the rest of the year not much will change.  It all depends what sort of trade deal we get.
Can't help thinking  we've had 3 years  to be sorting all that .

Never mind ,  HS 2 will save us all from plunging into poverty .  I can see it now as it rockets through your county at 200 mph  leaving prosperity in it's wake .

Thousands of Londoners will be rocketing into Birmingham & Leeds   20 minutes faster than before  .....wondering what the hell they are doing there  & rocketing back again  , 20 minutes faster .

As they supposedly try to work out whether to press on with it ,  the contractors continue ploughing up woodland etc   .   ( Any Answers  ,   BBC4 today)

HS2 isn’t about speed it’s about new capacity ....

Can you explain ,....  because I don't get it ....  how it brings prosperity .   I only understand manufacturing   really ,  make things  ,  sell them at a profit , employ lots of people  who in turn pay their taxes ,  everyone has a better life ,  kids go to school in shoes ,  potholes get filled etc .

What I could understand would be a new North to South rail  that ran 24 hours carrying all the goods that would have been on lorries ...like shipping containers .  It could stop ,  Rolling stock carrying stuff for Wales could  be transferred to a train heading for a central point in  Wales ....then dump more in the Midlands ...up to Manchester  etc etc .  .

The M1  & the A1   would be empty ,   lots of jobs at transfer stations   and the "Rocketing " folk  would be thinking  " Why was I going there anyway"  ?  :C

There can’t be that many people wanting to travel north? And the south is full of all but English?
The Midlands is full  so don't really need anymore  .  Half of those here don't work  .   And as I've said before ......  in my working life  about 10 million factories & businesses  have disappeared from this area and all other  industrial areas .

And computers  ( brilliant devices)  are like those  agricultural machines that were invented  , saved all the  manual back breaking  labour  but drove  workers off farms into industry   and now drive workers out of industry .

Harold Wilson got at least two things right .....he  warned that we were heading for a "Leisure driven Society "    ( I didn't understand it at the time )     .

Its a phrase you don't hear often I must say .     Who actually says "I'm going to North England tomorrow"  ?

Sorry , forgot to finish this,    he also kept us out of Vietnam .

On a similar vein to the over budget expenses for the HS2 project. What about dumb smart motorways? What will become of long distance travel by car on our main routes between major cities etc.? Or is it a clever deception to try and get more people off the road and onto the train?

Doc H.

Doc h can you imagine the tradesman doing that.....

Hang on a minute driver let me get the 2 large tool boxes out the bus the saw stand and chop saw 5 lengths conduit 3metres long 2 sockets and accessories the screw and fixings boxes the 3 rolls cable and don't forget the 12 cctv cameras dvr powersupply consumer unit and not forgetting the rolls of cat 5 needed for the trade to do his days work

in a similar thing, newcsatle council is going about about wanting to charge for going into newcastle to cut congestion. so their plan is to charge vans, taxi's, buses, trucks etc a daily charge of at least £10 to cut congestion and make people use more public transport. but cars are stil going to be free. so basically, the only people who could use public transport still get to travel free, yet those who cant reasonably use prulic tranport have to pay. end result will still be the same amount of traffic on the roads. should be the other way around. those who drive to work in their cars who could use public transport should be charged, not those who need vehicles to do their jobs

also, apart from the tyne tunnel 10 miles down the river (which you have to pay for), the first other crossing is the tyne bridge. so even those not going to newcastle but other places still have to use the central motorway. of course, if they sorted the traffic lights on the south side which cause all the problems to start with, then it wouldnt be so bad, but thats gateshead councils area and not newcastle...

It can work in some very limited situations. In London the agency spark gets on the tube with toolbox in one hand, drill case in the other, and arrives at a station outside the site. The LWB transist driver form the wholesaler is left strugging to pull over on double yellows and unload 12 bundles of tube and heaps of besa boxes 😂.

I met such a chap on a job once, mid forties been a sparks since leaving school, never learned to drive because he'd always lived in london and never needed to. Those in governmet I think, beleive the whole country is just like London. Me? Well after once trip down there I was asked how I found London "You know what, the best thing about it was getting on the M11 going away from the damn place"
