What techniques and products does everyone use when patching up holes in ceilings when u have to cut a patch out or move a downlight
Much easier method:If it is a large hole. ie a blob of filler wont do, then:Get a strip of plasterboard (I guess stiff card 'could' do) as wide as the hole but longer so it can be slipped through hole then will rest on back of ceiling covering said hole.
Make a small hole in board and thread a piece of fine string through it and tie it off with something at a back to stop it pulling back through, A screw/nail will do fine.
Slip the board through the hole then position over the hole to be filled with string hanging down.
Using either plaster bonding or hardwall fill the hole to just below surface holding the board in place with the string.
Let bonding/hardwall go off (set but not dry out)
Skim over patch as usual.
That is the method I use, others stuff a load of paper up their and give a wish and a prayer.
This is true but what is the piece happened to disappear with a hammer, or the lackie threw it away?Much easier method:Find a piece of wood, slightly longer than the hole and slightly thinner than the hole.
Insert wood trough hole, and screw it to each end with at least 2 plasterboard screws, so the strip of wood is bridging the hole.
Re insert the original piece of plasterboard that you previously cut out, and screw it back in using plasterboard screws fixing it to the previously inserted strip of wood that's bridging the holes. It will of course be a perfect fit.
Now just the edges and screw heads to fill.
