Can anyone tell me the set up for these for these lights.

Looking to fit soffit lights x 4 myself

Do they need a 240v supply to them? Or are they powered some how through wifi.

Thanks

mains needed, and controlled over WiFi(on off colour etc) just be aware you need a decent WiFi signal, if full bars on your phone it should be fine but low signal on phone they might struggle.

I’m only planning on fitting them at soffits.
So I’d need a supply to the loft.
Could I tap into a live at a light switch below loft and run direct to them since they are timed and colour changed through phone app.

Or am I better of tapping from near by socket below loft running cable upto loft into fused spur then from there onto lights?

Thanks

It would be plugged into my router in livingroom. I take it it’s only a small Ethernet cable to attach to router then to hue hub?

Don’t know much about how the wirless lights work.

Mains to lights then hub to router? Is that it

No I’ve not ordered them yet was just trying to find a bit more about them before I did. I was getting quoted £600 for 4 lights so thought I’d do them myself. I don’t even know how much the 4 lights and wireless receiver would cost alone but probably nothing close to £600

Does anyone have a link for the correct ones/kit if use for soffits?

Is it a case of getting a supply to the lights, powering them up. Connecting the hue hub to my router, downloading the app and jobs a good un? Thanks

Yes!

You should be able to pick a lighting feed up from a ceiling rose in the upstairs rooms. Run this out and connect to the lights. Connect the hub with a network cable and away you go.

Great thank you.

So I take it I do not need a switch for them?

Just connect a live feed to them and work them through the wifi from then on.

It may be useful to have a switch but not absolutely necessary. I think I would be tempted to feed them via a fused switched spur, you can then isolate them if there were any issues.

You will need:
a hue bridge Click me £55
hue colour and white lamps (2 in a box) Click me £75 x 2 =£150
Soffit lights Click me £27 (6 in a box)
20 Metres 1.5mm cable Click me You may need 2 "lots" £24
Earth sleeving Click me £1.84
Cable clips Click me £2.50
£260.34

You May need:
Cable stripper Click me £12
Hole saw (75mm) to cut holes for lights Click me £8.40
Wago box Click me £2.00
Hammer Click me £6.00
Drill (ryobi) Click me £79

Would a 3amp 5amp fuse be sufficient?

And 2.5 t&e to spur then 1.5 t&e onto lights.

Thank you for taking your time to add the links 👍🏻.

I have all the tools just needed correct Info for install 😎👍🏻.

If I’m running them from spur would 3amp or 5amp be best 👍🏻
Only 6 lights I’ll have

The calculation you need to consider is that 'Power = Volts x Current'
so.. 230V x 3A = 690Watts..
or.. 230V x 5A = 1150Watts.

You should check what the max power of all your lights added together is..
But I very much doubt your 6 lights would be even 100Watts total

So 3A will be good.

But you first said

soffit lights x 4 myself

Which is it? as there is an option for 3 lights (not 2)

would 3amp or 5amp be best

3 A

Oh, and each lamp uses only 4.3 watts so 6 lamps = 26w (ok 25.8)

pack of 3 lamps Click me £114
small pack of wagos Click me £18

oh, you MUST have one of these Click me (You can then tell it to turn the lights on and what colour they should be)
