The designer usually specifies the equipment and cable size. You seem to have pre-empted that and specified what is to be used with no regard to the regulations or the suitability of the equipment.

Now I’m going to be down right rude, I don’t believe your “electrician” mate exists.

What you wanted was a join the dots description of how to do the job. Now you are sulking because the “real electricians” on this forum won’t help you.

Electricity can and will kill given half a chance.

I’ll leave you with this thought, “will your children be allowed in your man cave?”

Ok.well he does actually exist and as I said before I started asking questions before his introduction.i personally do not want a fire because it's actually a recording studio effectively a man cave.there is a lot of expensive gear in there collected over the years and not only now.i hold my hands up and I was totally and utterly wrong in thinking I could do it.

now I will leave you with this.in future maybe you should be more polite to people and you will get to know all the facts.

electricity kills,really?!

i didn't know that!

what an enlightenment.

Get over yourself. You came here, asked a question that showed that you clearly didn't understand the equipment you had as the question was nonsensical at which point you decided we were all idiots and then you randomly changed a perfectly good consumer unit for another one and told us that this was a solution to the non-existent "problem". You then started this topic with a huge chip on your shoulder because a forum full of electricians told you you were missing a lot of the basics which is really beyond the scope of what we could start to address in a couple of posts on here.

This is going to go nowhere, you have the attitude that you know what you are doing and we don't so there is little point in you being here. Good for you, courgette off and fit your garage CU then. If you have any questions ask your "mate".

I am late to the party, however.

there is a wealth of knowledge on here from some VERY experienced people. There are some types of work I would not touch /could not do and yet others specialise in it. Likewise with my main source of income...there are many on here who would not/could not do it.

you will get a far better response if all the details are given at first instead of drip fed.

i now notice that this is going to be a recording studio.

i used to wire recording studios...good luck with that if your spark has not done one before. It ain't rocket science BUT it needs a lot of thinking about to overcome the obvious pitfalls

just humming

Hmm.you are repeating yourself again.there is actually no point being on here with the elite.you are boring.bye bye.

What is it about some people these days.... you wouldn't walk on to a site and demand step by step instructions from a tradesman - so why do people expect it on a forum?

Can you teach me about the bins that you empty please?

I think we forget that we are quite thick skinned, we have to be in these kinds of environments we find ourselves in, you learn to accept banter as well as criticism.

Perhaps to the outside world its sticking bits of wire together and turning it on to see if it goes bang but to us its always going to be a lot more than that.

@Murdoch I dont empty the bathroom bin either, there are things in there that cant be unseen.

I once saw a guy fit an SWA to supply his garage, somewhere he'd read that 2.5 would carry 27 amps, only wanting a single light and a socket for charging a battery or something he decided 2.5 was the way to go. Later on he was using a cement mixer and plugged it into the garage, it barely turned, why? It wasn't a massive load, maybe the fact that the length of run was a shade over 105 mtrs had something to do with it?

People always go on about us being elitist and thinking we are above ourselves, but, I look at it like this, we spent a lot of time and money to get where we are, why should we give "free legal aid" to all and sundry? Also I despise the "secret squirrel" attitude of a lot of people, they drip feed bits of info and I'm convinced they alter what they tell you to suit what they get in response to each question, some people are so secretive it's untrue. I was unable to work for a spell due to a health issue, there were a number of times I was prepared to help people foc in an attempt to preserve my sanity, yet when you ask where they live they don't want to tell you, know I'm not saying give a full address obviously, but something like, Merseyside or West Yorkshire or Cumbria would be a starting point, rather that, up north or down south. If anyone was struggling and they were fairly close to me I'd have been happy to have gone out and helped, even if they'd just covered my fuel costs, but no, some people just want free info on their terms, then no doubt if it goes wrong, usually because they either haven't given you the full picture, of not followed the instructions properly, they'll no doubt come looking to sue somebody.

If you think getting advice on DIY electrics is hard, go and try asking on a forum for advice on how to DIY your own gas alterations (which is legal BTW as long as you are competent)

My wife went away for a few days last week, and would you believe the self emptying bin broke.

and,

I'll bet the plate cupboard didnt replicate either, I think ours works on a retina scan or something, it never works for me anyway,,,,

meh,

technology just doesnt seem to work properly these days,

I sympathise with Dertt, its a bit disheartening when you can't get practical info from professionals on  the internet.

I had the same problem a couple of years ago, I have a phobia and decided to get help with it.

I got no help at all, I got criticism, sarcasm and told how dangerous it is to self medicate without the help of qualified professionals.

I don't understand really I don't why they were so nasty.

I'm scared of hospitals so l wanted to take my own appendix out.

Makes sense doesn't it?

Surgeons do it every day so it can't be that difficult, can it?
