Have had an electrical blind installed for velux window.

The transformer has blown twice in three weeks. The transformer is plugged into a socket in the house.

The company are saying their may be a faulty appliance plugged in on the circuit causing a power spike/surge.

Is this a common problem? what is a common cause of power surges? and would a faulty appliance blow a transformer on another plug?

I have plugged other items of equipment in with no problems, lap tops and lamps.

Any advice please? i know a little bit about electrics.

Sounds like a letout to me Boycee.

A transformer like that should be fine really .   Have you had some local lightning strikes in your region ?

Do you use an arc welder in your living room at all ?  :innocent

Dare I say it.... cheapo crappy transformer with dodgey laquer seperation  from  u no where .

There are problems with cheapo plug-in cellphone chargers from Uno Where ...the lacquers break down while charging and 240 V appears on your phone ...not to be recommended.

not very often, and it was in the kitchen, and all my stuff still works, AFAIAA,  :D

Ha Ha, no arc welding in living room!

So you think it's the transformer? I dont know where they got it from.

I have have been told it could be faulty wiring. Is this a common cause of spikes? Also heard loose connections could cause the problem.

but other things i have plugged in have been fine.

I presume this transformer has it's own socket that's not normally used for anything else.

It's got to be worth checking the connections are tight in there?

No it is just plugged into a double socket. Other stuff is also plugged in at the same time, some times.

Is that a problem. Would loose connections cause it?

Does the blind go up and down nicely when it works or is it getting stuck ?

Sounds like cheapie Chinese trannys :)

Be a good idea to get the socket circuit checked by a sparks if you know one to rule out your installation :)

Well the transformer they claim costs £120 so i dont think its a cheapo one?

How would a dodgy circuit cause a power surge though?

Apologise for all the questions, not experienced with this sort of thing

Also because i dont think i have made it very clear. Two have blown in quick succession.

The way i worded it might have confused people.

Can you post a picture of this transformer, or a link to where you buy it so we can see what it is?

£120 sounds like somebody's p**s take over inflated marked up price to me.
