Bob - did you ever consider you are just a daft young clumsy ****** and once you've banged your head a couple more times you'll learn? ;)

There is a difference between taking reasonable precautions and going crazy and over the top. Don't forget that you also have a responsibility to look after your own health and safety.

They're like £6 from ebay - delivered.

Buy it for yourself as a comfort item if you will continue to be an uncoordinated clutz........

:D

^^^^

Im with Paddy on this,

not having a go at you Bob,

but I do think there is too much of a blame culture,

surely there is some point where we take responsibility for ourselves.

Have it in Black and white in front of me and I have read all the posts.

Covered in other duties sections 8 & 9, NOT under section 2 which is

the one about duties of employers.

"Employees cannot be charged for anything done, or provided, to

comply with the relevant statutory provisions.  For example, employees

cannot be charged for PPE required under/by health & safety legislation."

The one get out is maybe where someone might buy an item of PPE but

the employer may only re-imburse at a lesser cost because the employer

knows that other, cheaper items exist that do the same job.  Some may

argue with this but I have seen it done.

I think many would agree that Bump Caps are permissible if they have a

CE mark and they can be used when FALLING OBJECT  PROTECTION

IS NOT CONSIDERED NECESSARY IN THE RA. (Risk assessment)

The full safety "skid lid" IS suitable for falling object protection and the

effectiveness of this protection is based upon some complex mathematical

modelling.  One made from a plastic like ABS would protect the head

but the impact would be transmitted in full to the hat band.  One made from

another material may allow the object to penetrate BUT, deccelerated to

such a degree that the magnitude of the injury is minimised.

This does not alter the fact that the Bump Cap is Personal Protective Equipment.
