This may be a daft question but are you allowed to extent the length of the functional earth on RCBO's

I would say yes as I have no information to contradict this. The "functional" earth lead is often very small in guage and would not suffer from supply leads that may have volt drop limits.

What size CU are you putting it in?

Mine are all to Long and a job to make tidy!

24 way 3 Phase

Thinking now that there are different ones for single and 3 phase as some of them have long leads and others have short ones

I'd say yes no problem extending so long as the extention is same or greater csa as manufactured cable.Just for interest (sad I know but when you enjoy doing sparking any info is great)

That is just typical of today's way of thinking!!!! Cut the function earth out as it's too much trouble, double faults almost never happen and it's costs MONEY!!

Well double faults DO dam well happen, in the past Double faults were always taken into consideration in the design of components and equipment. I've rejected MV ring main units on a factory inspection, because i could simulate a double fault on the closing control circuit in a fault condition. It got changed pretty dam quickly too, and just for the cost of a of couple short lengths of control wire.... And risk ''Eliminated!!!''

Back on topic....

Of course you can extend the functional earth fly lead, as well as shorten it too. The same goes for the neutral flying lead too...

Larnacaman,

I think you have spent tooooo long out of the UK by the way!

;)

Please remember we have no such thing as MV over here it is either LV or HV!

We are at odds with most of the rest of the world in this, however IIRC mainland EU is the same as us?

Anyone?...

Many may not understand your comments as they will not have been brought up with these terms!

Europe is MV upto 24kV HV over... I think you'll find Officially, it's the same in the UK too!!!

Not as I was taught. LV 50-1000v HV >1000v

No inbetween.

Same as myself Sellers, but it all changed some years back now. Not exactly sure, but also think the LV went up to, to 1500v. The MV standard is now pretty much standard around the world, apart from the States maybe, but then they are still holding on to there AWG for there cables sizes!!!! Even there close neighbour Canada, is now Metric!! lol!!!

As i thought, MV is the standard term used in the UK!! Checked out a few UK suppliers ALL are using MV terms....
