been asked to replace an ageing door entry system to 8 flats. the existing wiring looks OK, and looks like 4core to each room.

any recommendations or any to avoid?

my mate fits these for a living... says best are videx, followed by farfisa.

he was a bit startled when i told him you had a 4 core to each room...( he said more usual is 4 core pair i.e. 8 wires.) ...that might limit you as to what you can fit. he reckons you'd be better off with a 'functional' rather than 'digital' system (digital systems can be 2 wire)

be aware that videx are usually d/c and farfisa a/c ... your existing door lock could be either and may need to be changed to suit... theyre about a tenner.

also said that http://www.norbain.co.uk/ were the place to go

i'd go with the previous post andy, looks a lot easier. :^O

Most older systems are 5 wire that I have come across.

Have installed a variety they all seem much the same (Made in Italy most of them)

Just shop around and see who has the best deal, would be my advise.

Tim beat me to it, all standard door entry systems use 5 cores. We always use Bell stuff http://www.bellsystem.co.uk/ . Even there basic range audio only has a nice warble instead of that horrible buzzer most have. Also the call sound is heard at the outside station so you know somethings happening rather than pushing the button again & again & again. I dont rate Farfisa at all, but Videx is ok
