Removing ceiling plate spotlights

Thanks but how do I get the cap off? It's literally flushed to the plate! 

 
 just tried prising the cap off with a blade, a dental tool and a safety pin - you can't as there isn't enough of a gap. Any other ideas?

might have to do it the old fashioned way  :shotgun:

 
Or, it may be screwed on,

I had one a while back where that little 'cap' was actually the nut,

But, I'd reckon it's just a tight push fit, as Andy says. 

 
Those lights have a recessed screw cap.... I'm afraid that you'll have to destroy the cap with a small screw driver to get at the screw underneath.... it looks like the fitting is past it's best anyhow (yellowed)

 
Yes that's why I am thinking about replacing it. It's way past its sell by date!

 
Don't really understand why this has to be so difficult! Poor design?
