Wow, if I am fitting another one of these, I better make sure I got the wiring right first time!

Don't really understand why this has to be so difficult! Poor design?

No different than numerous products with single use push on fixing covers, small plastic cap with a couple of spines that self lock once pushed into place. Not poor design, just designed to conceal the fixings with a flush appearance. Used on some kitchen cabinet furniture as well, even common place on light switches and sockets, tiny plastic caps cover the accessory screws. With a suitable tool they are never that difficult to prize out, but as Andy says they are almost always damaged during the removal process.

I asked (shouted) the same question at the sump plug of my wifes car that defied 2 hours of effort to undo the bloody thing so I still haven't done the oil change yet.

Lol, this defies logic. It is not as if it's a decorative piece! I suppose the same applies to your wife's sump plug prodave!

Kerching - hope not. I will end up smashing the thing up and then regretting it.

Hi all,

just an update on progress. Everyone here was right, there was a central screw hidden underneath. There isn't anyway you could access that screw without breaking the cap (poor design)! I got it off using a hammer and chisel and then just unscrewed the underlying Philips screw.

have brand new lights now, but still adamant that it shouldn't be this difficult. Thanks all for your help!
