The only other consideration that no one has mentioned so far is the maximum floor area covered...

e.g.

32A 2.5mm Ring 100sqm

32A 4.0mm Radial 75sqm

20A 2.5mm Radial 50sqm

ref table 8a On site guide pg 158..

my point is that when and where in ANY specification for 2.5 cable does it carry 32a,.?

the big red comic may allow it, doesnt mean it is safe.!

and when are you all going to start liking the spider lighting circuits again for the same reasons?
Given a suspeneded ceiling and suitable access I quite often spider-wire lighting. Makes for shorter runs, lower Zs readings and easier maintenance. Also useful to part energise a system mid winter when builder wants lights to work by.

a 2.5mm cable cannot carry 32a?

But on a ring main it doesn't you have two so that is two times 27 ampsBatty
i thought he was saying no spec cable carry's 32a i was gona say pyro does

solution, wire ring finals in pyro,

what fun, :D :D

so what your saying batty is 2x 2.5 can carry 54a.!?

wonder why I bothered using 10mm for showers, all that money wasted when I coulda used 2runs of 2.5T&E........

It could surely in ideal conditions.

when pyro is specified what can you do Guiness Drink

If 1 conductor of a certain C.S.A. can carry 'X'amps.

2 conductors of the same C.S.A in parallel can carry 2'X'amps

3 conductors of the same C.S.A in parallel can carry 3'X'amps

4 conductors of the same C.S.A in parallel can carry 4'X'amps

etc...

basic electrical principals..

just as with many meter tail supply in some blocks of flats run with multiple parallel 2.5mm singles NOT single 16mm or 25mm.

e.g.

regs 433.4, 434.4 conductors in parallel.

Also the whole of Appendix 10!

so say 2.5mm PVC T&E derated to 20A due to installation methods,

in parallel with another 2.5mm allows 40amp derated.

2 x 2.5 would be 5mm? So it should be somewhere between 4mm & 6mm (~42A)Ian.
2 x 2.5mm conductors would be able to carry more than a single 5.0mm, (if they made 5.0mm), due to greater surface area to allow the dissipation o heat. ;)
