I was wondering how the Forum is set up and controlled. What is the legal side ? Does any government body monitor the threads etc. I know we have moderators and bad language should not be used. What about libel , slander etc. racism , political opinions. Is there any political control over forums. What costs do you incur.

Will a white van turn up to take Specs away one day soon ??

The internet is fairly lawless and difficult to police.

Legally we could curse and swear on here but Admin keeps things polite.

Yes it worries governments like China and North Korea where they restrict access. Like the Russians during the cold war , they transmitted a tapping noise called the Woodpecker to drown out BBC Radio 4 .

Some bodies do call in regular, but it would go against my "Privacy Policy" and "Data Protection" polict (Not Act) to mention who.

As long as it is stamped out (If anyone tries it on) then there is no problem. They will get a warning/infraction. If he/she continues - then they will get suspended/benned depandant on the seriousness and how many warning that person have previously received.

I won't say to much on our success on an open forum.

Why do you want to know? You not thinking of setting up in competition with us, are you?

I have a large cost to bare. Any donations etc are pumped back into the forum.

As long as any reports of potential defamation are acted upon then there should be no issue. Demon fell foul of that when they refused to remove defamatory posts on their Usenet servers and lost a case that claimed they were publishers.

Due diligence is the key.
