Both stories sum up the stupidness of the system  but also , as in story 1 , the attitudes that have spread throughout society .  I mean , did the lad's mother think he'd be on minimum wage forever ??   FFS !

In my opinion the benefit system is essential for the long term WHITE unemployed especially those who can but won't work.

Sky subscriptions, video games, trainers, baseball caps, tanning, nails, take-aways and the latest smart phone don't come cheap!

Also I think I read somewhere the UK spent £20 MILLION one year on printing NHS leaflets with the various translations on it (that doesn't seem enough).

Remember a BBC program some 12 months ago about Poles coming here to work in Peterborough area in agriculture all on the minimum wages.

When they went to the job centre and said to the english they could get them jobs they where told to FO when they found out it was working on a farm on minmum wages as they could get more money out the state not to work.

You've reminded me of a bloke further up our road  ,  we'd spoken before and he'd said he was a sparks  although he'd also said he was Master Locksmith .   Also a Master in Bovine Excrement  !!     So , he's repairing the underside of a Cortina with sheet steel cut from a washing machine casing ( as you do)     and says he,s out of work .      Said I knew loads of sparks looking for help ( very busy at the time)   ....he clutched his back and said he'll never work again with this back !!!!!     And he never did.

He'd managed to fill a full sized skip on his front !!

Once knew of an Aston Martin repaired with a Castrol GTX tin?!

Well this thread makes for a cheerful read. There seems to be fairly good consensus on what the problems are and remarkably few workable solutions. Yeah I know, throw out the Africans and the Europeans but I suspect the UK would be worse off if Africa and Europe threw out all the UK residents and UK business interests in retaliation. Maybe changing the island mentality and reducing the benefit culture would go a long way in driving the country forward. In Africa if you make a guy unemployed you create an entrepreneur not someone who sits on his couch counting the days till his next handout.

The system is broken because it rewards people with money for doing nothing. I'd pay them into a special account that could only be used for food, clothes, fuel etc. No alcohol. No tobacco.

Get them doing community service if they want the money - time off for interviews. Litter picking. Reading to kids in schools. Painting railing. Sorting mail. Anything.

I don't want to see people starving on the streets.

Funny isnt it, my mrs has MS and were BOTH off to work in a moment and she has less time off sick than the other staff!

There really should be two benefits;

One for the long term hard working who have unfortunately been made redundant and have made a contribution to society. This should be supportive and provide help with training and reskilling to get the individual back into work asap.

The long term unemployed should be made to do work experience, training etc monday to friday otherwise no jsa. This will help the idle get into a routine, get work based skills and also stop them doing cash jobs on the side!

Deke, everytime i go shopping in birmingham i always feel like the ethnic minority, so perhaps i should have more rights!

Im totally not against any foreigners coming to the country, just as long in that our customs, language and traditions are respected and that the immigrants are coming to enrich our skills and society.

Same as, if i lived in another country i would learn their language

nd show respect to their beliefs.
I feel exactly the same Robin.    Hence a good deal of shopping done in Lichfield TBH

They should scrap the system for anyone other than proper disabled folk  and make those that sponge get of their back side and go an earn some money to put food on their table
Trouble is here many would probably turn to crime as it pays better for less hours! Aided and abetted by the super slow police enforcements system we have in this poor effort of a democratic country, of which I don't ever remember seeing a survey or being asked if I'd like a massive increase in immigrants to our land. Still I'm only part of the back bone!

as Kenny Everett used to say 'round them up put them in a field and ...................'

Politicians you understand.

Ah yes Sharpend,   Stepps is from the future , I should have warned you .     Do not act upon anything he says or you will change the future with disasterous results.

Did you hear on the BBC Home Service last night , you can listen to pop music now on Radio Caroline?     Jimmy Saville,s on there ,  seems a nice bloke  :C

Stepps was telling me that in the future where he lives,   Sparkies have to join a professional body to prove that they are competent to do house bashing ................  and.....now don't laugh ...if you do any work in a kitchen , bathroom or outside you have to notify Building Control , unless you live in Wales , where something else happens , or Scotland , where nothing happens at all ...... well he's havin' us on of course , but it made me smile .

Apparently they are working to the 17th edition of the Regs up there .....oh and get this ........conduit is made from PVC !! and .......now this will make you laugh ....another typical Steptoe wind up ....... the phase colours have been changed to Brown - Grey - Black  and  ...I mean he must think we're daft or summatt .......the neutral is now BLUE !!!!      Oh dear ..I almost believed him till he came out with that one   :^O   :^O   :D   :pmsl:   :pmsl:
