My understanding is that a rented dwelling less than 200M2 and over two floors all smoke/heat/CM detection should be mains powered with battery back up.

Discuss :)

 
If they should be replaced every 5 years regardless, and you can now buy them with 5 year built in batteries, why should they have to have mains supply.

Is just head in the sand stuff.

Apparently some LBC accept this.

Because as I understand it that is what the British Standard says.

 
All rental properties up here from 1st December must have hard wired smokes, head detector in kitchen and CO detector wherever there is a combustion appliance.

But that standard was set before Detectors with 5 Year batteries were a available.

It's technology and moving with times, when something comes along then the standards should move with times and say mains operated or 5 year battery minimum.
