So today was the last day for getting the old FIT.

I assume you are all working until midnight tonight to get jobs finished.

Then are you all, as expected, out of work tomorrow (PV wise at least) or what's happening?

Interesting this was discussed on the Jeremy Vine show today. They interviewed the director of a PV company, who said they have a boat load of panels on the way from China (his words) that now don't have jobs to go to, so he said there would be some good deals on offer in January.

Just finishing up some snagging really. !! Pv orders on the lower tariff , a big fat zero. Looks like I need to find some other work!!! A few heat pumps happening but not much really.. Nice one Cameron...

Mmmm, not so sure, but who knows really .Gorden spent the money but do you not have to speculate to accumulate. Anyway we have to meet renewable targets as a country and today the biggest growth in the renewable market solar pv !! was dropped like a hot brick.

by who?

the voters,?

the gov offered far more than they could afford to pay for generation,

only Great Britain could offer such a stupid amount and think it would pay!

Im not going to get into political arguments any more (if I can help it)

but this is one where other parts of the UK offer less money and its still a growing industry,

and, GB will pick up once folks have got over the shock of 50% cuts.

Exactly the government offered far more than they could afford and completely stuffed it up. They started off with a fit to good to be true . So what happens high demand, lots of orders ,lots of jobs in training wholesalers ,electricians ,roofers etc. Then they drop the fit to half with all these new employed workers , wholesalers ready to go to work with now very little demand. Crazy. !!

Why not build the market up progressively.

Who knows how politicians work.

dbicket,

I think you will find that Mr Brown made the amount payable an act, (eg, law) so it had to be made available,

the current gov are only trying to keep this country afloat after the previous 10 odd years of d 1 ckheads trying to sink it, and they are still at it with striking etc,

Im totally fed up with paying for other people, thats why this country is sinking faster than a lead t**d,

how come parts of the UK with tarifs of 15p have a growing industry?

its not the tarif thats the problem, its the people being greedy.! cos they are owed something, remember that, the country owes these people something.!

I'm not disputing the fact that the pv market won't grow after this cut . I am however disputing the way they went about it , as my previous post says why would you not have built up the industry more progressively. And save this dumping of all these jobs already. As the carillon workers will know after being put on their notice two weeks before christmas ..

The previous government set up these tariffs???

The 2009 Renewable Energy Directive sets a target for the UK to achieve 15% of its energy consumption from renewable sources by 2020.

yep, Mr brown had already set the paybacks as a UK sorry, GB thing,

actually implementing something and setting it in law can take years.

Im simply waiting for it to become legal to shoot members of trade unions and immigrants on sight.!

Have panels got cheaper the minister on one of the programs the other day said they had got cheaper and that is why the tariff had been cut.

Big issue going forward is the Cat C energy rating for the property - 10% of housing stock max, which will be the new build, small roofed property inhabited by mostly skint people. So that's no customer base and a few new build estates. Was looking at one of these a few weeks ago - 4 panels on each roof, less than 800W per house. Firkin pointless being registered for MCS.

well,you could say

thanks Gordon for going in so ****ing deep we cant shovel our way out !
I don't wish to get political, but is that true?

IF the UK was the only country in deep sh1t and struggling to pay off our debts, then I would agree.

But it's just about the whole of the western world that has borrowed too much. You can't blame Gordon for that.

So we ALL did something wrong, not just Gordon.

Have panels got cheaper the minister on one of the programs the other day said they had got cheaper and that is why the tariff had been cut.
The whole point is the FIT was supposed to get gradually smaller as equipment costs fell and installs got cheaper, to maintain the same sort of pay back time.

The present FIT was due to end about next April after which a new FIT would have been announced.

That's what everyone was working to.

But the sudden and abrupt end of the present FIT ahead of schedule is what has caused the problems, ended even before the consultation period has finished.

So it's looking like the predictions were right and those only doing solar PV need to find some other work.

Timing just before Christmas is not a good time to find you have no, or less work.
