I suspect that the prosecuted drivers were going above the 50mph that it should have been, as it said that out of 439 caught only 97 were fined??

The bloke mentioned in the article is quoted as being recorded at 42mph?  "One of those caught out was lorry driver of almost 20 years Gary Richards, who drove through the 20mph limit and past speed cameras at 42mph at 2.30am, 12 hours after the crash happened."  Incidents like this where common sense is thrown out the window are the sorts of things that just generate resentment and lack of respect for the highways agencies. The fines should go to the idiot who didn't adjust the speed signs at the correct time. 50mph can be daft enough at 2:30 in the morning when its mostly supermarket and parcel delivery lorries on the motorway, as for 20mph!

highways are just like the police, above the law. they courgette up, someone else gets the blame & has to pay

police are to blame too. surely there was at least 1 police car dove along that road in the time it was wrongly set. why didnt they report it. why didnt any highways agency vehicles driving along report it.

then he police who deal with the speeding fines should be taking responsibility too. why didnt they question a sudden increase in speeding for an unusually low limit set for an unusually long time? instead they choose to prosecute drivers instead of checking that there wasnt an error

anyone caught after the speed sould have been changed should be refunded & compensated for any insurance increases, driving bans, loss of jobs etc

They highways sign controllers do seem incresingly in favour of puting up speed restrictions for 'phantom' events. "Debris on road" is a favourite. This is a mistake as it waters down peoples response to any signs, ie they are increasingly ignoring them.

So HS2 is projected to be ( at present) £20/30bn over budget AND up,to 7 years late in completion!

so who put the original price/quote/estimate ?AND why havnt they been fired?

i don't know about the rest of you but if one of my jobs goes over by a day or 2 OR even £50 overbudget I would be in for some earache!

7 years and £30bn?.....nah, it'll be reet
Rumour has it a large green field housing estate in the Walmley  area of Birmingham  has been cancelled due to possible cancellation of HS2 .

Apparently it was earmarked for  buyers selling up in London , making a fortune , moving to Brum &  commuting  on HS2 .
