That was an old swa that was running up the side of the house going to a double pole switch which was not connected to anything so i have used it to take power into the loft,it is run in safe zone's so i did not earth the armour.

Graham the armour is not outside any more it is in the extension run in the corner of the room upstairs in to the loft.

Never like SWA without the armour properly glanded. It just doesn't seem right to have all that steel and not use it as it as nature intended especially if its running in a corner sazezone that only us electricians know about. Better for the person banging a nail into it to get a big bang and the protective device to blow than them getting the nail in, touching nail, getting a shock followed by the rcd tripping. Not having a go just a personal thing, rest of the job looks good.

Were you working on the board live? And also leaving the cover off whilst power was on?

As your last picture has the main switch, rcd and mcb on. Also picture 10446 you seem to have the cover off and there are two extension leads coming from your newly installed sockets below.

It is nice and easy to install the DB at that height, but it is not so easy in the middle of the night for an old lady to find a set af steps and flick the rcd back on when the lights go out, which is why the height of the DB is not to building regs height these days. :yellow card

I've said it before and I'll say it again...

I don't beleive that DB's have to be between 450mm and 1200mm AFFL to comply with part M..

Part M stipulates the position of accessories for normal use by a "possibly disabled person", and a DB is not an accessory... What are you going to do about pendants etc, mount them halfway down the wall?????

Needless to say though it would be good working practice to mount DBs in an easily accessible position though

No I was not working live, yes cover was off and yes i did have some temp power to the sockets below but I was the only person there at the time but cover went back on soon after.

As for the DB, that was where customer wanted it.

I would never put them at ceiling height as you will need steps to reset anything but always put them at a height so they can be reached without steps by an average height person. I hate it when you go into a garage to find the consumer unit a ceiling height and you then have tons of clutter to move before you can even get your steps to isolate something. If a customer tells me they want it a ceiling height I say it has to be accessible and thats the end of it.
