Planning on starting a property Maintenence business but I am still in full time employment and will be until business starts to grow ? I'm a PAYE employee and just wondered how I would register for tax as self employed whilst still being taxed and national insured through my full time employment? What forms would I have to fill out etc?

There is nothing stopping you being registered for self employment whilst on paye

Just ring hmrc and tell them when you plan to start classing yourself as self employed and they will send you all the relevant forms.

They will also let you combine your paye with your own self assessment if you wish but it if you don't want your company knowing you can quite rightly keep both tax accounts totally separate

They are quite helpful really

Recommend a free consultation with your local tax office they will be able to direct you in your tax commitments.

If I may ask what is your background with regard to maintenance?

Ive done it,

just fill in a self assessement each year, but make sure its right,

oh, and make sure you have the right insurance, its different apparently if its not your main job etc etc etc

Yes I too was self employed as well as employed for a short time.

They often even work it that they adjust your tax code at the end of the year, to collect the tax due to your self employment via your PAYE, so you don't have to fork out your due tax in one lump.

It really is simple, but you MUST notify HMRC about your self employment.
