hi all, some time ag u may remember i posted about my van being broken into etc, well 2 oclock this morning, it seems like someone tryed again, this time, the van was empty, however the house doors were tryed and back gate opened, bolts were left undone by myself earlier that evening. duhhhh..

so im now looking to get cctv installed in next couple of days, can anyone reccomend anything? im thinking about somethin with a warning buzzer if the cameras pick movement up an alarm/buzzer sounds? that way if im in bed i will hear it?

preferably wireless system would be easier to install. contacted police as a local neighbour seen them but they say as they had hoods etc and a description couldnt be given they wont do anything, even tho they could fingerprint etc.

fed up with it, could be conincidence but could also be the same people.

you can get PIR floodlights that will sound an internal sounder (kinda like a wireless doorbell, where PIR would 'push' the button). they also have a 13a adapter to plug in a lamp etc. iirc, they were

Sorry to hear that mate. Did they break into your van and do damage or just look through windows. Old bill are useless.

You can also get car alarms which have proximity sensors. If someone stays close to your vehicle for a certain amount of time, tones will emit and if they are still there the alarm will sound.

nice one cheers, maybe a good idea to look into :)

Voltek and GJD do decent controllable modular lighting systems. I've fitted loads of the GJD kit for lighting and for CCTV monitoring and is the preferred choice. Been on a few jobs with the Voltek kit installed and it seems half decent, never used much of it though.

CCTV is all well and good but some of the budget stuff is not worth fitting, and if it's wireless it will probably be budget. I'm not saying don;t fit CCTV, but if you're going to spend money on anything then spend it on other security measures and leave CCTV as a last resort as it won;t stop anyone from doing anything, it probably won;t deter them and if they know about it they'll be masked up anyway, and as I say, you need some decent kit to be able to ID anyone in low light.

cheers for info and advice lurch, will definately take your opinions on this, as its not my sort of thing so good to know what others think is worth while. cheers

In todays Britain you mustn't harm anyone who enters your home uninvited in the middle of the night .

Invite them to sit down and have a nice cup of tea with you , then suggest that you phone Social Services and get a mediator round to discuss their problems with society and why they felt the need to break into your house at 2.00am , frighten holy **** out your kids and start helping themselves to your personal belongings that you have worked hard to buy.

Alternatively you could batter him sensless with a baseball bat , dump him outside , get the police round at top speed by saying there,s a car outside with a faulty rear light and Oh by the way theres also an injured man lying in my garden ,I don't know how he got there .

sorry to hear that mate. you can also get vehicle alarms that if they go off your alarm fob also sends out an alarm tone. handy if you park a little way from your house or from where your working, had one on my old van and it worked up to about 1/2 a mile away. also saves you running out to a false alarm if a neighbours alarm goes off. think it was laserline who done them.

It's quite common to get repeat break ins to vans. They come for the nice shiny almost new tools you just bought!I am a big fan of alarm mines if you want a big bang to legally scare the **** out of someone.

bloody hell, never seen the alarm mines before, look a good piece of kit, nah not got a dog, but ben looking the last few days thinking about getting one

i will definately be taking the batter him senseless option :)

no you wont,

that would be naughty and the police may arrest you,

you will gently sit him down and explain the error of his ways before you show him the door and bid him goodnight,

god help him though if those thugs that are always prowling your front garden get him before he reaches the gate, ;)

Back in the day when I didn't have a family draining my resources I had a nice car (TVR), which I had to leave on the drive all alone during the day. Being the untrusting type I got a camera system with a PIR that was rigged up to a tv and video and so recorded if anyone came close to it. It could also be set to give an audible warning to let you know if you're in the house that someone's somewhere they shouldn't be. I think I got it from Argos. Also recommend a big shouty dog!
