way is it so hard to find out of supply company what supply characteristics is at the property ie tns tncs tt 3phase single phase current / they never no our is it ringing the phone number

o i now we can do by testing it ourselves but in some cases we can not like the job i am on at the mo due to the danger of disconecting the main earth + servers and other systems alike anyone now the right person to phone headbang

its wrong thay should have a data base on all installations via the postcode on the internet then we would not have to bother them and y we are on it we should all have main fuse seal kits with are reg number on it as 99% of job need upgrading to 25mm tails

Most records when properties were initially installed were never kept, and ones that were recorded are out of date. All domestic supplies come from 3ph units which is why when a power cut occurs some houses are unaffected. The DNO do not know which phase most houses are connected to because of the lack of any records. The only information you can expect from any enquiry is max Ze and PFC. The type of supply is easily recognisable to experianced electricians and can be confirmed by testing.

like i said in the last post i no we can test for it and recongnize what it is from years of experiance and y would you bother ringing up for ze and pfc any way as they will only give you max permited for the supply type stated in the regs and like in many installations i have come across where it was a tns and the ze in one case was 365 due to supply sheathing corroding you would be wrong not to test o in this case it was the first house in a street of terraces then from there it looped feed the street manweb where quick out that day lol but i am talking about commercial and industrial where some times it is a lot of cost to isolate the main to see what supply you have per phase as a lot of old buildings are running at max as it is and as per last job in a school being made bigger the building consultancy did not price in the tender for a upgrade to the supply and it came in as

One additional problem with historic records is just that.

As the DNO changes and possibly reinforces their network then the pfc can change.

They limit the maximum pfc on large installs by design, transformer impedances etc.

Thus, you can be reassured that the maximum figures they quote you will not be exceeded.

I rung once about the pfc at a large industrial site, DNO 11kV transformer on site in locked off area of building.

Customers main incomer 1600A ACB other side of the wall.

I queried the max with them as published on their website, IIRC 25kA.

As I have said before, it seems around here we are lucky WPD are very helpful in my experience.

Plus they have an engineering office a few miles away from me.

I actually spoke to this office direct as I have the no.

The staff engineer offered to calc out the pfc from their network records etc if I was unhappy with the published value and reassured me that it would not be exceeded.

As this was primarily to ensure that the 35kA rated MCCB I had fitted was OK, I declined with thanks rather than give him more work.

However, it was during this conversation that we discussed the availability of this data and he informed me that it can change when they reconfigure their networks, up or down, however "they" limit the max pfc to their quoted values by design.

Fair comment, Frankie, I wasn't trying to be insulting in my earlier post. I can understand dyslexia but I can't abide laziness. :)

I guess you'll be 30 next birthday?
