Personally with two ends of different cables...

and an unknown joint..

I would want to open circuit both ends..

insulation resistance test across all combinations..

then continuity test with a known Resistance long lead..

e.g. a reel of 4mm earth...

then connector block onto each core in turn..

check continuity to verify if the joint appears to have similar resistive values on each leg..

Just another side point..

if you have two different ends and an unknown joint location..

how do you know there isn't a third cable also branched off the joint??? :(

I reckon that there was a shed there previously (mid point). This has been removed and the three core SWA originally used to supply the shed has been joined to the 2 core SWA.

You have a Phase, Neutral & CPC. The CPC is connected to the Armour in the 2 core.

And I bet a "Cold Resin Joint" hasn't been used either.

:)

Dave - How long have you been an Electrician, Mate?Do you specialise in Domestic, Industrial or Commercial?
Electrical and Electronics engineer - 30 years, Science Teacher 2 years, Sparky 18 months. Generally domestic. Mainly do home insurance callouts (anything from tripping/lighting faults/floods/fire/broken fittings etc). Also shop signs, inspections and some contracting work. Generally speaking big on diagnostics and inspection - but limited on contracting - hence some basic questions!

If there was a shed there...

and its gone missing....

I bet it'll be in steptoes yard!!! :^O :^O:^O:^O

I would be concerned about an unknown joint type as well??

As you say WW....

if not terminated correctly....

it should be accessible for inspection and testing???? :| :(

A SHED???????

Surely, it may have been a "workshop"!!!!!!

Heathen!.

And, OY, special. I`m talking to you; don`t walk off.

I`m pretty sure that`s what I said (or meant, anyway!)

Just `cos you`re more lucid than me. Only means you haven`t supped enough yet......

BUT....

If it IS terminated correctly; it does NOT have to be accessible. Therefore, maybe the fact that it`s inaccessible means that it`s terminated correctly???

If done correctly, as you know SL, a "Cold resin Joint" is a perminent joint.

Thanks SL and WW - valid points that I'm not going to get the chance to investigate! Frustrating aint it!
Its a b****r!!

Thats always the problem working for others...

one persons Good workmanship & proper materials ain't necessarily yours!? :(

I note from your location Dave you say Cornwall!B)B)

which bit are you in?

the fat bit..

thin bit..

the white china clay mountain bit..

the wind turbine bit..

I hope this SWA isn't to get power back onto that smugglers hideaway where you can squirrel any illegal substances you may have acquired off Mr Sworld... I've heard his ice cream has secret ingredients?? ]:) ] :)

I know a cold resin joint is a PERMANENT joint!

but I didn't know it is also a 'perminent' joint......

whatever one of them is!!!! :^O :^O:^O

I though the earlier supposition put to the court was that

you bet it wasn't a cold resin joint??

I shall ask the secretary to re-read the minutes.....

therefore accessibility would be required...

but hopefully it is cold and resin and jointed and safely out of harms way? :)

But I bet its a twist & tape joint!!!!!!!!!!!! :O] :) ]:) ] :)

its not really an issue what the joint is tbh IMHO.

you are only certifying the actual work you do.

fair enough, even I wouldnt touch this by the sounds of things, but if you aint altering the supply/sub then you dont have to certify it.

you only have to prove Ze at your sub board, and the ccts fed off it.

oh, btw,

you CANT export the earth........... :^O :^O:^O:^O:^O:^O:^O
