Hi all I'm quite new here and have just passed my level 3. It might be a silly question but I have found a light switch directly under the consumer unit and I was wonder why it is there ( it doesn't control any lights)

Thanks.

Yes its possibly the silliest question this year (r.b. may be ahead of you by a wiska)  How would anyone know for definite from the details you have given ?

Found a guide for this exact problem:

The OP DIDN'T say Level 3 in what tbh....................I'd suggest banging large holes thru the walls at random to help trace the wires and covering the resultant damage with strategically placed paintings etc

But be sure to do that first. Before taking the cover off.

and yet another new member made to feel welcome you lot really piss me off sometimes

as some have already said most probably the door bell isolator

id say it could be the understairs cupboard light or might also be an outside light say on the back side of the consumer unit itself, as in the past ive put a light switch under a cu to make an install of an outdoor light neat without trunking s an outside light is a large psosibility. by the way welcome. :Salute

I would hope that it is for a light or bell transformer as suggested, but with modern sparks it could be to isolate the board for all I know without having the pleasure to see it??
