Hi

I have a plasterer booked in to skim our hall stairs and landing, he wants all the switch plates and socket covers removed before starting ,is this common practice and what is the best way to teminate the wiring and cover in the back boxesobviously all the power will be switched off prior to carrying out the preparation work .

If you have left sufficient cable to terminate, coil it

gently into the back box and stick a piece of card

over them.  Do not attempt to terminate until after

he has finished and then all you do is pull out the

card and the conductors, gently.

If you need to, mark the conductors before you do

this as to function; live feed, switch wire, strappers

etc.

Its often done by by..... Switching off...... pass a plastic bag over the switch or socket  ...tape up the open end .. but don't disconnect.

He can switch the power off while he,s plastering ..clean out the box ...(no chance)  and they can be re-fitted after.

Probably contravening all H&S rules .

+1 to evans electrical. Unscrew, bag and tape.

When hes plastering near the switch or socket a loud clap near his earhole will wake him up a bit. Haha always do that to my plastering pal :slap

Thanks for all the advice, very helpful,I will put my son to watch him so he leaves the boxes clean!
