Well done that man for drilling a hole in the socket front.  Last time I tried, the brittle plastic shattered.

I was actually trying to drill a blank plate to fit a particular AV socket

I have cut a square hole in a blank plate to fit a temperature indicator. Used a Dremmel worked well.

I’ve drilled blank plates for phono sockets. The first one I’d engraved before drilling, it broke. 2nd attempt, drill before wasting my time with the engraving, it worked that time.

With several plates to make up I knew some would break so I bought two packs, before I’d finished I had to go to the wholesalers again. One had drilled perfectly, it broke as I clamped it in the engraving machine.

If the plates hadn’t been for me I’d have chucked the sponge in after the first failure.

Yes, I've done a couple for USB sockets; rectangular centre opening with a tiny screw just off each end!  Patience and needle files needed.

I gave up trying to drill blank plates when I realised CPC sell a huge range of AV faceplates, with or without sockets.
