OK, I'm sure well know it's Beatles mania again..

Anyway, forgive my ignorance (I have the entire Beatles catalog in mp3 format (remastered of course)).

Regarding the Digital Remasters, just released...

Why would anyone be interested in the MONO versions???

:|

If I'm not mistaken, weren't most of the singles in Mono, along with the earlier albums??

Anyone?

They were. And re-mastering these days often means making them louder and decreasing dynamic range so it may sound worse than the original digital releases.

I think a lot of people get used to the original versions , that is what they want to listen to. Bit like other artists covering one of your favourite recordings, you wish they would'nt do that.

I understand whay you are saying but the original mono recordings were made using the equipment available at the time & designed to be played on the basic record players we all had. (anyone remember Dansette?) As record players got more refined with stereo commonly available the older recordings began to show their age, hence the practice of remastering.

I have some original mono Beatles vinyl which I edited when i converted them to MP3 for use on my Ipod. The quality is quite good as are all the other vinyl albums & cassettes I did at the same time.

I do remember Dansette, I used to route the output of ours through an amplifier our kid had built, neighbours loved it !!!

Since earlier post I have read that the very first Beatles mono records, if converted to Stereo , will play vocals from the left speaker and instuments from the right with nothing in the middle.

On the subject of old recordings, if any one has an early LP (album) 10" of Elvis on the HMV label , its worth big bucks apparently. Not RCA.
As are the original Sun recordings on 78s.

How could one forget the old Dansette, I do believe my elder brother had one (mono of course)..

The early sixties saw a move away from Mono to Stereo (8 track?)..

No I don't :p . Even if I thought you did, I couldn't admit it. Blushing

This is a subject close to my heart as, although I wouldn't go as far as installing a seperate socket from the CU for each hifi component (see current thread), I still have an anal retention issue when it comes to sound.

So far got 10 of these new Beatles remasters and I have to say they are amazing. Best remasters i've ever heard. Totally blows away the 87 versions. Dynamic range is superb, a little louder but in no way detrimental to the sound. Stereo imaging is stunning.

Sorry, got carried away there. Normal service will be resumed...
