Hi all good evening, after a little advice,

I am looking at getting power in my shed, it is situated next to the house, in the garden, my questions are,

1. (Cheaper) Is it a safe option to run a spur from a socket in my kitchen into a fused spur box inside the house, then take SWA from said fused spur to a shed CU then from there run 3 double sockets and 1x strip light, the sockets used mainly for light powertools, glue guns, hot air gun and batery chargers. Max distance of swa run is 10mt from exit point from kitchen.

Or

2. Run SWA from the house CU outside, fixed to wall at height of apx 6ft, burying is not an option, a run of apx 20mts, into shed CU and then into sockets etcas per option 1. My question with this option is, A, is it ok for the SWA to mounted to the exterior house wall. Can i do all the work, mounting cable, shed CU, sockets and lights etc including the terminations in the shed and then have a local electrician complete the termination in the house CU and making the system "live".

A bit long winded i know, but hope you get the idea.

Thank you in advance for any tips and pointers etc

do you know what earthing system you have in your house?

the swa direct from the consumer unit is preferable.

yes, it is designed to be run exterior.

are there any stickers on your cut-out [electric board fuse] ?

maybe take a picture of the incoming cable and service head and post it up here and we should be able to identify it for you,

you may need to get an admin to upgrade your status to allow pictures prior to ten posts.

Have a look at the service head at the end of the supply cable. Your consumer unit will,be AFTER the electric meter...you need to look at the bit BEFORE the meter

Are there any stickers on it saying PME supply

Is the main cable lead sheathed?....is there a wire connected to this sheath?

You should be able to see the lead sheath as the cable becomes smaller where it enters the haead

How old is the property?

Contact Admin to see if you can post pics

if you want to do some of the work,

do not be mistaken about doing any connections, the electrician will have to disconnect them again to do his testing,

best if you simply run the cables and screw the back-boxes on,

my advise would be to get your electrician round and he will tell you whats what and where to run the cables and how to leave them for him,

remember, with the SWA in particular, he will need an amount of 'slack' to make off his terminations,
