Hi all,

They just found the fault in the street, [the next door peoples service joint] Anyway, they backfed the other two phases, and cut the cable, so now [for the minute] only fed from one sub. Guess what. My motors run much better.. Still **** supply 0.29 but much smoother i think. They asked their boss about my supply but he does not care apparently, they have that many faults they just want to get supplies back on all over the place  and not worried about me.

Hi All,

Latest developments..

Today they found the fault, it was in the service joint to the house next door to me. They are on a different phase, but there must have been a burnout or something inside the joint box thing, [massively different to the cheap rubbish they have now, must have cost a fortune]

Anyway, they decided to cut out the faulty bit, and, as they had already opened up the cable twice already within about 15 feet looking for the fault, they chopped the lot out and inserted about 20 feet of that concentric stuff. So as to not cut anyone off while they did this, they went to the link box and linked all the phases to the next section, so as to backfeed the whole lot.

Now, when I spoke to them, they said that they were only going to do the minimum, and that the original fault [that caused my section to be linked many years ago] was going to be left as it was, as they had asked their boss and he told them to leave it as it was. Next thing, a very nice forum member contacted them, and they suddenly decided that they WOULD repair the original fault and all set off to dig more holes..

Meanwhile, I thought I would measure Ze with a "double ended" supply [to the two "good" phases]

This dropped from the usual extremely sad 0.29 or a bit more, [it varies quite a bit, along with the voltage], to a much more healthy and very stable 0.18.

I am going to see if I can persuade them to leave ALL the links in place. Anyone know if being fed by two paralleled subs is a bad idea from the point of view of the quality of my supply??? As of about 5 minutes ago I had 230V and 231V from the "double ended" phases, and only 222V from the linked at one end but a fault in the middle one.

Woop! Fault finally found, now is there any part of your street that isn't dug up? :D They won't leave it parallell, as mentioned earlier. If it takes out the HV fuses then there will be A LOT of people off and someone will be in for a big bollocking.
