Not only your opinion - but my opinion too.

:)

Not exactly sure but I am pretty damn sure they are quite harmless - Norton is the most paranoid program ever written, and I agree with the above it sucks.

Remember Neil from the Young Ones? Norton is like that, all dirty flares and conspiracy theories :)

We keep buying biscuits, but none remain when I go to the biscuit barrel. Where can I get some of these tracking cookies?

Tracking cookies are mostly harmless.

But they have been exploited in the past to hide viruses in.

A cookie stores information on your computer regarding the site you've visited.

It's used to remember things like user names and preferences.

Or where you've been on the site.

A really good example of this working is the screwfix website.

You go on and add an item to your basket and suddenly when you search or visit other web sites screwfix using google advertisement comes up with all the similar and additional products for the one in your basket.

Great advertising!

Generally they are harmless -

Norton is more harmful!! REMOVE IT

go and buy VIPRE for a few

S'funny how Norton has become a pain in the rear end when it used to be such a good programme.

I gave up on Norton years ago because of conflicts with Windows and other stuff. Prefer to use Ad-aware by lavasoft - paid for edition, as this has live monitoring of internet activity, so should prevent viruses getting onto PC in the first place.

Went downhill after Symantic bought out Peter Norton, pile of sh!te now

Thanks guys. Are they really that bad ? Vista has its own build in, free, security but I was told that was no good and I should get Norton.

It seems to handling all the carp , it shut me down twice , saying there was something dreadful launching an attack on my PC.
