Are we not earthing boxes at all nowadays?
I am guessing it's a metal blank plate (I have never seen an earth terminal on a plastic one) so possibly better to use that than the earth terminal in the back box. Ā It may be a plastic fast fix box for all we know and might not have an earth terminal.

Speaking as someone where 90% of wiring is in timber framed houses with plastic fast fix boxes and metal back boxes are in the minority.

Probably 50/50 in this country. ;) Worth pointing it out anyway just in case.

I had thought aboutĀ  mentioning that in my post , however i dont normally respond to Diyers and since she/he hadĀ  already done the job and had no intention of calling in an electrician i thought lets make sure the cpc's are at least joined. Once again i think its wrong but there is nothing in the regs to say you have to earth a back box (one fixed lug rule blah blah) and the op said the plate had a terminal which was doing that.
