Ok my turn to ask a question!

I have to wire some electronic gates which is easy done them before no problems.

However the client wants the brick lights to come on when the gates open, and stay on for as long as it takes him to park and enter the house.

He also wants them to come on by PIR should he enter the carpark or drive area.

My thoughts was to wire a seperate ir sensor to detect the gate opening, and wire this to the main PIR as a two way so each can turn the lights on.

Simples!? Does anyone have a simple idea how I can wire this as a timer? I know the PIR would have a setable timer but the IR for the gates will not.

My only other thought would be to use a PIR for the gate opener as well.

Could there be some conflict in two way pir times?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Wire it through a relay?
I have thought of that patch especially as the gate opener controls are 12v.

I thought of using the aux output to wire a relay to switch them but its the keeping them on thats made me scratch my head.

Given time I would work somerthing out but I thought I would ask as this forum have some very clever minds:^O

Can you just mount one motion detector (with timer) that looks through the gates at the drive area, therefore triggered either by the movement of the gates or the movement in the drive area?

The driveway and parking area is too large with what could be some blind spots.

I did think of doing that with another PIR placed higher up the drive.

i would just use 2 pir . the one over the gate initially brings on the light as he goes thru the gate. this has a relative short on time as the second pir will pick him up as he gets closer to house?. so the gate pir has released but the house pir is on before the gate pir went off so the light stays on for time set.

and vice versa coming out the house

Can you not just use the aux output on the gate to a delay off relay so when the aux output comes on it brings the relay in and this then stays on for as long as you set the delay. You could then also if you wanted use the n/c contact of the same relay to disable the pir for the length of time the relay is on by supplying the pir through the relay.

but most PIRs will automatically come on when power is applied - could cause more problems

i haven't thought this through, BUT if wired like this, wouldnt the second PIR for the lights end up opening the gate when triggered?

if you used a relay on the gate side, then the PIR activating will be electrically seperate from the gate, so wont open

why complicate interfacing with the gate. if the gates opened someone is going to be by it which a pir can detect.

pir has adjustable timer and daylight saving another issue to resolve with gate activation
