.... on so many levels.

Just been to a new house "I've had a new kitchen fitted and the hob keeps tripping the trip switch"

No surprises there. The kitchen fitter had fitted an induction hob where previously there had been a gas hob, and left the new induction hob fed from a 6A MCB.

But hold on. What sort of consumer unit?

Bear in mind the house was built in 2005.  There's a Hager CU but just a main switch and 10 or so MCB's. Not even split load with some circuits on an RCD.

So firstly the builder built a house in 2005 that did not comply with the regulations then.

Then the kitchen fitter did a usual shoddy job not even noticing or caring about the lack or rcd's and the wrong mcb for the hob.

I wonder why the home owner didn't just call the kitchen company back to fix the tripping mcb?

This house built in 2005 is one of an estate of probably 50 houses built in 2005. This is the first one I've had a look inside.  I wonder if they have all been built without any RCD's?

Hi ProDave,

Sounds like an upgrade to an all-RCBO board to me, using the existing enclosure.

Good suggestion Dave.

In this case I have some Hager rcbo's left over from another job that will be going in. but if I find any more like this....

EDIT:

I don't think it would work in this case.  This particular Hager CU only has half a din rail, the top half.  The bottom of the MCB is located by clamping onto the fixed busbar finger.  Remove the busbar to fit one of yours, and the mcb's would only have half a din rail to hang on.
