Fitting a Mira Sport 10.8Kw shower for a customer. Whilst installing a new RCD unit I had to remove main fuse for safety reasons (let's not go into this here :z :z). Took the opportunity to look at fuse rating and, as I expected, 60A. So, obviously, it's not enough. Rang up YEDL and the form filling begins. Not had to do this before so just wondering what they will do and how much it will cost. The property is a 1930s terrace, service head old but looks OK.

Old Wylex board (not going to touch that again). TNS. Ze was 33.5

4mm earth cable disappearing under floor into connector block, one strand connected! Sorted that out. Problems over....

...until I decided to go for lunch. Flat tyre. Couldn't get wheel off. RAC came. Nail on edge of tyre. Tyre only 3 weeks old. bad day explode

Enough said!!

They will need to confirm their supply cable will handle more than 60A. Its unlikely it will take 100A though so they may upgrade it to 80A. Last time I called EDF for that they didn't charge (but that was probably luck).

My local DNO does not charge but you will have to upgrade main Tails to 25mm and main earth conductor to 16mm.

Had already costed in doing this. The original earth was inadequate and there was no bonding of any kind so this has been taken care of.

Supply cable will handle 100amp plus on most supplies, often I find industrial units sharing L1 with 3 or 4 houses on the same street if not more. same with L2 and L3.

Just done a rewire on a house, second fix to do later, its got a 3 phase supply shared along the terrace, end house has a new 100 amp supply from same service, the house I am working on has 60 amp main fuse.

I recently did a commercial job with another forum member, I blew all three main fuses on a 3 phase supply (working live) two fuses were rated 80 amp one was rated 60 amp, I replaced all main fuses with 100 amp.
