Did Germany or some other country close to them use to have black & brown   ?

maybe it was made during colour change time and the manufacturer ran out of red before black?

You may also want to check the cpc size as it may not be the standard size (don't think this has been mentioned yet but i have had a few reds so may be wrong)

...but he may have been referring to his corner shop and not the size of the cpc
