Anyone have a good ref for a company which supplies and installs good van racking systems. I have a volkwagen caddy (new shape), it is way too small. I think some sort of organised racking would help.

Opinions pleaseeeeeeeeee ???? GuinnessGuinnessGuinnessGuinnessGuinness

I'm going to third it as well. All the off the shelf racking systems I've seen or had in vehicles have been mediocre at best. All of my own vans have ben ply lined and racked by myself, and I don;t just ram a few shelves in, I take a while to get it exactly bespoke. Add a shelf, use it a while, see what else it needs, add another etc... By the time it's done your van is amazing. Wish I still had my old Partner from a few years ago, the racking in that was perfect, apart from it not being a 40' container.

They show one in the PE magazine where the racking extends out on rollers , looks the biz. but must cost a fortune !!!

I'm only using an Escort now so its tools, whatever is needed for the current job and small amount of stock . Ladders & steps on the roof.

Van is ex BT so has that racking on each side that the plastic bins hook onto . It does what I want .

I,ve had bigger vans and find I tend to fill the space available. For instance, Remember sorting out once and thinking " Why do I drive round with a load of 25mm galvo conduit boxes , they must have travelled 30,000 miles "

I did mine out over xmas (kept me out the house for a bit). Used MDF to create a raised floor to slide the ladders under and a partition across the middle. Then fitted plywood shelves across the side and bins onto the partition in the front half. The back contains all my tools in a vault with a shelf across the top part with PPE, radio, extension leads, hop-up, etc stacked on it.

I keep saying to myself that I'll take a pic one day

Please do.

I have decided to ( as you all say ) build my own. All ideas and pictures would be a great help. :z

I have the Expert van (new shape) don't like roof racks so had a whole cut under middle front seat (Got ok from insurance )and a tunnel in ply built by a mate front to back with 3 compartmants for trunking, conduit etc, 3mtr lengths.

He also put a removable shelf in at half hight from back to side doors and fitted it out with 4 sets of plastic stacking draws from B&Q all held in place with tie wraps and a few other fixings

I can get 2 sets of 6 tread steps and a 3 section ladder all inside

All works great, still room for cable drums and other larger bits and allows a good stock of bits to be kept on board, saves to much running about.

I tried the bins on racks but I would go over a bump and they jumped off. do you chaps that use them reinforce with a screw or just driver slower than me?

:D

for full width ramps, i normally have to slow to 10-15. for speed cusions, i can go over them without wheels touching ramp

that, and just about everything in my van is either screwed to something solid, or has shock cord or a bolt to hold it in place

heres mine in use hence the mess everywhere, the racking is worth its weight in gold makes my life so much easier, cant see how i coped before.
