The idea that a nation can tax itself into prosperity is one of the crudest delulsions which has ever fuddled the human mind. Sir Winston Churchill :Salute
Welcome to the world of the Haves and Have Nots

Then look at the industry that caused the problem in the first place.... yep banking transactions etc, ...VAT FREE.... And Bonuses abound!!! :Y

Read somewhere that george Osbourne said that VAT will not becoming down to 17.5% again.headbangheadbangheadbang

They would be liars if they had said it would!!! When have you ever seen any purchase/VAT TAX increases ever come down??? Funny how just a short while ago, VAT was temporally reduced by exactly the same amount as the recent increase (2.5%), to help stimulate the economy. ...If you didn't laugh you'd have to cry!!! ...lol!!!!

127p litre a diesel now in sainsburys. Ffs this country has got to be the biggest rip off in the world. I think it just makes people mad who in turn think WTF should I prop this country up paying high taxes and drives people underground doing cash jobs etc

---------- AUTO MERGE Post added at 19:32 ---------- Previous post was at 19:27 ----------

Was talking to a friend here around the same age as myself, and both of us could remember the price of petrol when we first started driving ...10 Bob, or 10 shillings, or ...50 Pence a GALLON!!!

And i'm sure there will be others here, that can go back further than that ...lol!!!! :| :run

But what it will do nicely is finish any chance of small businesses surviving, thereby paving the way for big business t flourish even more than they already do, which if Im not mistaken is what Blair/Brown did by letting them get thier way anyway.

Its a wider coalition than it first appears :(

So VAT has gone up,,,, so what !!!!!

20% is in line with europe

Lets not forget something here...........

May not be as bad as you think, Sprocket, the overheads of large companies are huge.

The people of this country are "Cash Cows" as they say. We ,as self employed, have a little more control over our money than an employed worker , who has very little spare cash jingling in his pocket once the government has hoovered up a good chunk of his money. For years on Budget Day , they used to whack more and more tax on tobacco , drink and petrol . When diesel engines became popular they whacked more tax on that , now the cost of fags and booze has bit them on the ass with more packing up and pubs closing . They take 20% of your money when you earn it and another 20% when you spend it .

Good game !!! Good Game !!! lets have a look whos wining ...... well the Government are in the lead along with the bankers and their huge pensions are in the lead............ and they are followed in 2nd place by the benefit cheats , the non workers and the "Asylum" seekers and they are being carried around in comfortable sedan chairs by the "Workers" who don't seem to be making much money at all but seem willing to fund the lifestyles of anyone who washes up on our shores ,pleading poverty and pretending to be students.

So its three cheers for the workers as they blunder around down there in the brown stuff trying to keep their heads above the surface.

And they need to keep the television running 24hrs /day , it keeps the workers sedated otherwise they'd be taking to the streets.

from a local news site

I think It's terrible. The price of everything is going up, but our dole money isn't going up with it. "If they're putting VAT up, they should put our dole money up, too."
and then put the VAT up more to pay the dole money....

how about getting a job.

Im afraid to say that all though I love my country and what it used to stand for,... I am day by day starting to feel like the best thing I could do for my family would be, ****** off to another country,

I feel like this country rewards the work shy and punishes the people who try to make a good life for there family. I don

Deke, I would rather they put the VAT up 2.5% than increased national insurance as was discussed. At least VAT affects all individuals and is collected when the people on benefits spend their money! If they took it off NI it would be more money off the working man who is propping up the welfare system.

In reality the rise is

It has always been the same, Tories get in power and get the country solvent then Labour get in to power and nearly bankrupts it again. What should be done is that anybody coming to this country should not be allowed to get anything out off the system unless they have paid in that would stop half the sods coming here.

Nearly 20 years ago was made redundant as the shipyard was shutting we had a hut put on site so you could speak to the benefits office to find out what you could getold that 6 months dole then nothing as may partner at the time would have to keep me I hit the roof asking why some **** of a 16year old could go out get her self pregnant and be kept for years by the state without having paid anything into the systemheadbangheadbangheadbang
you know, my mum lived in Switzerland for 6 years... as she was an immigrant , she couldn

You can never permanently emigrate to the USA (99.9% correct) Even if you meet all the criteria, set up a business employing others , invest money there and even marry a citizen, the minute you stop working you have to leave.

My brother has lived in Canada for almost 20 years now. When he married a Canadian a few years back they had to give him a Canadian passport ( he now has duel nationality) , but stamped on the inside cover is 'Landed alien'

There are some interesting thoughts on the above posts..

as always we often choose to pick on "easy targets" and ignore some of the slightly less straight forward problems to discuss:-

Immigrants:- One perhaps should look back over numerous decades to see how a lot of this countries wealth, early industrial dominance and world position was attained...

Don't somehow think it was ALL from home born native persons?

Adjusting the countries balance of payments etc:-

We hear the phrase we must all pull together to sort this problem out..

However it is often the case that the less well off do less well during the good times AND less well during the bad times..

Current examples are our illustrious bankers and heads of industry..

When times are good mega bonuses..

When times are bad mega bonuses..

When they leave there businesses due to failed business decisions mega golden handshakes..

etc..

As has always been the case the gap between the rich and poor will widen as those with greater wealth will be able to pay experts to assist them with dodging paying some of there rightful dues that would help us ALL to improve our countries stability.

Rest assured it will be the little, working class people who will keep the big man in the manor house living in luxury having his boot polished while our families miss out on a few more basic essentials.

Yes fuel, public transport, clothes and food (basic essentials) are going up at an equal monetary rate for everyone...

But as a proportion of income..

Its going up one hell of a lot faster for those at the lower end of the pay scales.

A pint of milk, a train ticket and a tank full of fuel take no account of who you are when you purchase them...

Ignore the immigrants for the moment consider the native born persons who have been here for several generations...

Shouldn't every native born child in this country have an equal opportunity to be educated to an equal level?

Or is it only opportunities if mummy and daddy are richer?

Consider two children born on the same day in the same hospital both with equal academic ability, both with several generations of family native born and bread..

One of a wealthy parentage.. one of a less well off parentage..

Basic schooling will be provided for both..

But it is quite possible without some financial assistance the one child may not be able to afford to go onto sixth form or university..

we are all bemoaning the rights that immigrant get coming to this country..

what about the rights and lack of rights to our native born children..

why can't they all have equal chance to better themselves and make a decent way in life?

As has already been said

Welcome to the world of the Haves and Have Nots

And don't be fooled into believing any government has much control over the economy.. It is predominately the banks and big global industries with greedy eyes an deep pockets...

Unless of course you are suggesting that our government carries so much sway and power to also effect the economies of other countries...

Fraid not people.. you do need to look at the world economy now, you cannot just look at one country in isolation.

At the end of the day just get on with life, ride the storm and see if you come out the other side in one piece.

:C
