Like many I think its very demoralising trying to get into sparkying.

I already work in the building game doing general build & maintenance have my 2330, 17th & 2391 Have all tools, testers, ppe, van etc etc and am fairly self confident, but it seems firms dont want to know you unless you've got years and years of experience and there are never any mate/improver jobs around. I was going to register with one of the part-p schemes and do domestic private jobs but dont see it financially worth it after I pay out for everything- membership, insurance etc.

I wish I had done an apprenticeship right after leaving school. Its sad but I do appreciate currently having a job but after all these years of studying I wonder if I will ever get to use these skills and just always do general build.

sorry:_|, just wanted to have a self moan.

If you are in work already my advise would be to register for any DI scheme, get two jobs lined up for assessment, when you pass get part time work which will cover your expences in getting started and gradually you will build a customer base up and may give up work and go full time.

Concur with GH, stick with the job & get some homers under your belt.

Hi Davey,

when i was training everyone said 'you will be so busy when you have your quals etc..' thing is that ppl have to know about you and you will only be busy if ppl know to call you, you need to network -not my strong point- and advertise as much as poss, but that cost more money, you just have to stick with it and get known.

good luck

i have recently joined a networking group called BNI. There are chapters/groups all over the UK, and it has been fantastic for business. Check out the BNI website.... or PM me for more info...

Hello daveyboy, cant offer any magic solutions..

but can offer a virtual beer and say keep yer pecker up m8Guinness

It is hard trying to get employment in ALL areas of business,

no mater what your experience or qualifications. :|

Think it was the news today that said unemployment figures are up again... :(

so times are going to be tough all round...

just have to keep on trying.

IF you were considering self employment...

you do need to remember the basic rule for all new startup businesses..

You got to spend money to make money!

there is no easy way to to dive in running making loads of cash without having to have some significant investment to kick start you!

:|

but there is some good advice on the forum about starting up business. ;)

how old are you davey? as if your 18-30 princes trust help people start up businesses. If you want more inf PM me. They pay for 4 day course re starting businesses, self employment etc and loan you upto

Thanks for all your advice guys I might join one of the DI schemes. The problem is I havent got anything to invest and dont really want to take out loans (would be different if it was a full time thing).

also wanted to work along side someone to learn and build confidence as its very daunting going on your own without much experience.

I have offered my services to lots of sparks free of charge just to get some experience but no one wants to know I dont think people want to cos they think it is to much bother & hassle.

Thanks again will keep you all updated.

:p
