Ooh upsetting the Admin3, not a good start!

Welcome to the forum BTW.

The Borg are pretty omnipotent, and frightening really.

Mind, could be Klingon, can't remember.

This will probably get me in heaps of trouble. ; (

Don't wake up Mr Smith.   :run

Are you asking what screws hold the lid on a conduit box? or what screws you use to fix it to the wall?

This is a question and a half this is ........on a scale of 1 - 10 on the Strange scale  , this is an 11 .

But I will attempt to answer in the in the finest tradition of this esteemed Forum and of course wearing my hat as the FSOTY ...Head of the Forum IT Dept

So :-

A Bar saddle ...more properly called to a SPACER bar saddle requires a countersunk fixing .  The type depends on the material you are fixing to .  A WOODSCREW no smaller than No. 8 can be used and the length is variable for fixings into wood or into rawlplugs.

For fixing into steel etc again a c/sunk machine screw must used , a suitable size would be M5  or if you exist in a pre-metric world a 3/16 whit  or a 2BA can be used .  In my opinion the Monkeyman's use of M6 Rawlbolts is somewhat OTT  and should only be used to fix conduit boxes.

Now the easy one . Fixing a Consumer's unit ........anything you like.

Also easy , the box lid , assuming this refers to a BESA conduit box there are only 2 choices ...M4   or for pre metric conduit 2BA .

I wish you luck with your further studies, Mr Creative Maseratti

If I understand what he means by a bar saddle, we use to call them hospital saddles, as they were used extensively in hospitals so that the conduit would sit well off the wall meaning less of a dust trap, or so I was told 33 years ago as an apprentice.

I think you were told wrong Roys .. :(

A saddle is the basic arch shaped clip with two fixings that holds conduit flat on the wall.

A SPACER BAR saddle has a slim base and a seperate clip.

A DISTANCE SADDLE  spaces the tube off about 1/4" .

As you say , A HOSPITAL saddle spaces it well off the wall to prevent shytte  building up behind the tube , also used in food factories.

After  many years in the trade I never heard of a BAR saddle TBH .

But they could have changed the name of course as they do every few months with  EARTH WIRE .
