Hi People

Looking for any advice about wiring in a whirlpool bath in the bathroom not sure what cable size as we don't receive the bath until 13th oct but i'm thinking maybe using a fused spur behind under bath with cable from bath wired in to it incased in the wall running a cable up thru the wall across ceiling into cunsumer board rcd protected. Would this cause any condensation causing moisture ? Any advice much appreciated

FCU should be fine, cable size probably be 1.5 3 core flex as not normally much power needed for pump (might be wrong am sure someone will correct if i am)i normally try and put fcu on other side of wall that its not in bathroom and you dont need to take bath panel off to change fuse etc, but can see it being a problem if thats the only place for it to go- assuming it has a bath panel otherwise the zone will change.

Thanks Wayne I was thinking i would place the fcu in the adjacent bedroom if not a good idea to place in bathroom be easier to access.

i would personally put in bedroom but remember it might get covered with furniture(big heavy wadrobe that will probably fall to bits when moved!) so could be easied to access under bath, if that makes sense.

Providing the bath panel is held on with screws..

i.e. it has to be accessed with a tool then it is outside of the zones...

Otherwise it is Zone 1.

See last sentence of Reg 701.32.3 description of zone 1 on page 165.

:)

Thanks special location i read the regs you pointed out that makes sense & the bath will have a panel fiited to the side all i need to do it secure it with screws. Thanks for that input

That fused spur is ample for what you want. When you complete the certificate in the comments box write in that their is fuse under behind the bath panel . Then if anybody other than yourself ever has to maintain it they only have to read the cert to know where it is.

Only problem putting fused spur behind bath panel is its not acceessable could be a problem if something goes wrong with it and it needs turning off quickly bit like putting cooker switch at back of cupboard no good if chip pan catches on fire. Personally I like to keep them accessible.

I have one fitted in my bathroom fed by FCU in adjacent bedroom, having the ability to isolate the pump off is handy if you dont want it getting switched on ....say by your kids and filling the room with bubbles. :)

did you say your taking your feed direct from the cu?

put and fcu next to cu

or if from a socket put an fcu next to the socket

What about an IP rated one under the bath, just to be safe?
What???????????????????????????

If the space UNDER the bath is that damp you seriously want to get the plumber back...........................

The IP ratings in this case would be predominately locations likely to get spashed.......

Generally the bit UNDER our bath is bone dry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :| :|

Otherwise you will need IP rated light fittings in the kitchen below(or what ever room it is)

I have had 2 plumbing 'incidents' under the bath that resulted in water spray!

I'm thinking of taking the feed from thre ring in the bedroom now but either way fcu in the bedroom or under/ behind bath looks like the option i do agree with special location it is very dry under there as it it now we have removed the old bath. Also had my 302 written exam today so hoping that went well need to wait 6 weeks for results & have my 302 assessment & exam next thurs & fri bring it on

I meant 303 as sat my 302 exam this morning & assessment yesterday
