morning all im in the process of having my conservatory done and wondered if the work is notifiable? im getting conflicting views as im extending the ring from the kitchen and theres the sticking point!!!

also as i have only 1 ring main in a 2 up 2 down terrace would you say split the ring and make 2 radials?any feedback would be greatly received!

If they change a circuit then yes they have to notify ... you only don't have to notify if you swap like for like, i.e. change a light, of a socket front etc. As for having a radial instead of a ring is personal preference... I would try and get them to put in 2 rings if it isn

I would say yes, any wiring alterations involving the kitchen are notifiable. Especially if you make two radials involving the addition of another breaker/fuse. You have effectively put a new circuit in, so notifiable whether it's in the kitchen or not.

thanks guys,i would prefer 2 rings but concrete floors and no access upstairs prohibits this, basically i want to add 3 double sockets and underfloor heating rated at 150w per sq meter(10sqmtrs)any ideas how you would go about this?

sorry guys i should of mentioned i planned to do the work myself, got my 2330 to level 3 and in the process of doing my 2392!heading for part p!

it all depends how loaded your current ring is...

can you go on the outside of the house in conduit? and run a new cable back to the board?

the under floor heating wont be a huge drain , but it will all add up ... what are you having on the 3 other sockets?

you would need to get some one to sign it off, or use it for your assesment with a scam provider i.e niceic.

Think you will find that your UFH will require a radial on its own. As for the sockets, they may end up running fan heaters when you realise that the UFH isn't brilliant so should also be on their own radial IMHO.

Are you able to fit heating to a conservatory? I thought there was some rule about it becoming a habitable room and was then an extension rather than a conservatory.

no chance with the conduit as mid terrace, loads likely to be a tv,lamp, and a lawnmower at times.my house has 13 sockets at the moment...thats why i was looking at the radial option?

Heating Mat is Definately Notifiable.

I normally try to put them on RCD fused spur if no RCD present.

Have you notified for the bulding works as this maybe covered in that anyway?

Wasn't aware that UFH mats had to have a dedicated circuit?

ideally the ufh is just to take the sting out of the tiles in the winter, may have an option to extend the rad from the kitchen which i know is not correct but will disappear when i sell the house!

you have to put them on a RCD...

i think a under floor of that size will pull about 6A, you need to have a look at what you use and see if you have enough Amps left to be adding things on. also anything that is changed in a house should be up to current regs.

If you read some of the manufacturers instructions they say a dedicated radial.

so guys extend the ring or radials?
Either or really, but don't forget if you decide to go with radials, you need to fuse them down at the board.

cheers fellas for the input, gona change the cu myself so the idea to use it for my scam is a great one ... Guinness
