Hey guys

I have encountered a strange problem today. When i gently touch the top part of an Xbox 360 slim and a grounded part of a PC, i get a small tingle in my fingers.

I have a cheap 12-250v AC mains tester, which i used to see if it would show anything strange.

Firstly, I tested if the tester works correctly. I used it to probe the 12V molex connector inside a pc (DC). It showed correct readings of 12V

Then I decided to use the tester on the top (metalic) part of the Xbox 360 slim, It shows 110v...

Same hapens with the power connector that goes to the xbox

The label on the xbox psu says that it outputs 5V and 12v

I'm a rookie when it comes to electricity, so what is happening here?

Should have bought a PS4  :innocent
Or a ps3, or a ps2, or a PS,

Even a Wii,   :)

Anything that's not microshite tbh,

You need to figure out if it's the case of the PC or the metallic part of the x-box which is at an elevated voltage. Test between a known good earth to the PC case and again to the x-box with your tester set on AC Volts and see what readings you get.

for good known earth the screw that holds nearest socket to wall is always worth a try. These are normally eartherd within the socket. Sounds like you are getting static build up on device.

I'm thinking static.....  but there seems to be a widespread problem with cheapo , crapo , imported chargers for various devices where the insulating varnishes on the transformer windings  breaks down between primary & secondary & can put 240V into your cellphone or  whatever device while charging or working.

However . you'd think that 110V would fade away with the tester across it .

It doesn't instill confidence in the product though.
