My central heating gives hot water , however when central heating is called the valve does not move over to the CH position . I have to manually move the lever across and then the heating starts to come on . I can then control the heating via the room stat . When the roomstat is turned down the heating switches off and the 3 port valve then moves to the HW position and then the performance starts all over again when I need heat . I removed the head from the valve body , there is no signs of leaking but when I put a small spanner on the spindle to turn it there is very little movement . I'm not sure how much movement to expect and don't want to force anything . The make is by Heating and plumbing ltd and the model is IXION . I am prepared to fit a new complete valve if need be . Your advice would be most welcome put the kettle on

The movement is only 30ish degrees.

Check the spindle on the valve body, it should move freely. Check the operation of the actuator head. It should move freely when powered.

Thanks for your reply mate . 30 degrees surprises me as it's not much but that moves freely alright . If I take the head off and get someone to up the roomstat the motor should then move freely to that position . when you isolate the supply to the system the valve moves freely back to the HW position with the aid of the spring . The valve itself must be working because the rads do get hot when I manually move the lever across .

So you're saying the valve itself moves freely, and the head also moves to where it should with no problems? Could just be that it was sticking slightly and some manual shoving has just nudged it into working order, done that a few times before. If both parts do appear to be working stick it back together and see what happens. Could be something binding, or the motor may not actually work with any load on it.

I took the head off and got my son to turn up the room stat and all I got was a single click from the head and no movement from the motor . The head itself is a travis perkins 'Ikon' :|

Sounds like you need a new head then. I'd imagine it is a rebranded something else. Is it a grey plastic one with all rounded corners?

It is a white plastic head with rounded corners .It has a black button on one side that you press to release the head from the main body I have seen Drayton and Myson types that do look identical to the one I have . They are probably manufactured by the same company . I will order the Drayton type and keep you posted .
